8 1 Main Features Getting Star ted Main Features This product can be used to record meetings or notes, for use in conferences and other business settings, and for language studies. It can also be used as a digital music player . This recorder features a two-part design.

14 1 V OICE Mode and MUSIC Mode This device can be used as a voice recorder or as a music player . For recording and playing back voice recordings, set the mode switch to VOICE. For listening to music, set the mode switch to MUSIC. WS 330001. WMA V OICE Mode Slide the mode switc h to the VOICE position.

20 2 Notes •T o ensure recording from the beginning, start speaking after you see the red record/play indicator light on. •A beep will sound when remaining recording time reaches 60 seconds, 30 seconds, and 10 seconds while recording.
21 2 Listening While A udio is Recor ded If you start recording after inserting the earphone into the EAR jack on the recorder , you can hear the sound being recorded. The sound volume on the recording monitor can be adjusted by pressing the VOL (+) or VOL (–) button.

28 2 Recor ding with External Microphone Connect the external micr ophone to the microphone jac k of the recor der . When the external microphone is connected to the microphone jack of the recorder , the built-in microphone will not operate.
29 2 V O L U M E EAR ME EAR Recor ding the Sound of Other Devices with this Recor der The sound can be recorded when connecting to the audio output terminal (earphone jack) of the other device, and the microphone jack of the recorder with the connecting cord (optional KA333) ( ☞ P .

40 2 1 Choose the file that y ou want to lock. In the list display , use the + and – buttons to place the cursor on the desired file. Press the 9 button in the list display to change the screen to the file display . In the file display , press the 9 or 0 button to select a file.
41 2 6 Press the + or – b utton to c hoose between “On” and “Off ”. On : Locks the file and prevents it from being erased. Off : Unlocks the file and allows it to be erased. 7 Press the OK b utton to complete the setup screen. 44 3 Using the Recor der on Y our PC Sa ving Files in Y our PC By being connected to a PC, the recorder enables you to do the following: •Y ou can save (back-up) the files stored in the recorder on your PC. Also, you can transfer the files from your PC to the recorder .
45 3 Saving Files in Y our PC ● Data can be written or uploaded to the recorder even though the attribute of the recorder drive is shown as read only by the operating system of the PC.
46 3 1 With the recor der stopped, slide the HOLD s witch to the HOLD position, and turn the recorder off . The display will turn off. 2 Detach the battery compartment pressing the RELEASE button of the rear side. 3 Connect the recor der’ s USB terminal to a PC USB port or USB hub.
47 3 1 Clic k the on the task bar located at the lo wer-right corner of the screen. Click [Saf ely Remo ve Hard ware]. The drive letter will dif fer depending on the PC being used. 2 When the safe to remo ve hardware windo w appears, clic k [OK]. 3 Make sure that the displa y is turned off, disconnect the USB.
48 4 Using the Recor der as a Music Pla yer The recorder supports music files in WMA and MP3 formats, which can be transferred from the PC to the corresponding music folder of the recorder . Using Windo ws Media Pla yer By using Windows Media Player , music files from music CDs can be converted (ripped) ( ☞ P.
49 4 Impor ting Content f or Listening on the Recor der Y ou can transfer language content and music files imported from language CDs and the Internet using Windows Media Player for playing on the recorder . The recorder is compatible with WMA and MP3 language content.

58 4 Skip a Music File While Playing It Press the 9 button during playback, slow playback, or fast playback. ➥ The next file is cued and playback starts at the previously set speed. • It cues within the playback range selected in “Play Mode”. If “Random” is “On”, it cues the next file randomly .

74 5 Notes • An erased file cannot be restored. • The locked files and the files that are set to read-only will not be erased ( ☞ P . 40). • If an action is not selected within eight seconds on the “Cancel”, “Erase”, or “All Erase” screens, the recorder will return to stop status.
