3-2 Chapter 3: Getting Star ted This Eee PC may c ome with either a two or three-prong plug depending on territory to fit your wall outlet. I f a three-prong plug is provided , you must use a grounded AC outlet or use a properly grounded adapter to ensure saf e operation of the Eee PC.
ASUS Eee PC 3-3 Damage may occur if you use a diff erent adapter to power the Eee PC or use the Eee PC’ s adapter to power other electrical devices. If there is smoke, bur ning scent, or extreme heat coming from the AC-DC adapt er , seek ser vicing.
3-4 Chapter 3: Getting Star ted F or safety reasons, DO NOT throw the batt er y in fire, DO NO T shor t circuit the contacts, and DO NOT disassemble the battery . If there is any abnormal operation or damage to the batt er y pack caused by impact, turn OFF the Eee PC and contact an authorized service center .
ASUS Eee PC 3-5 Emergency Shutdown & Reset In case your operating syst em cannot properly turn OFF or restar t, there are additional wa ys to shutdown and reset y our Eee PC: Shutdown: Hold the power button until the system shuts down.
3-6 Chapter 3: Getting Star ted Touchpad Usage Single-finger gesture input Clicking/T apping - With the pointer over an item, press the left button or use your fingertip to touch the touchpad lightly , keeping your finger on the touchpad until the it em is selec ted.
ASUS Eee PC 3-7 Dragging - Dragging means to pick up an it em and place it anywhere on the screen y ou wish. Y ou can move the pointer ov er the item you select, and while keeping the lef t button depressed , moving the pointer t o the desired location, then release the button.
3-8 Chapter 3: Getting Star ted Keyboard Usage Special F unc tion Ke ys The follo wing defines the colored hot keys on the Eee PC’ s keyboard. The colored c ommands can only be accessed by first pressing and holding the function key while pressing a key with a colored command .
ASUS Eee PC 3-9 T ask Manager Icon (F6) : Initiates the T ask Manager to view the application process or t erminates applications. Crossed Speaker Ic on (F7) : Mutes the speaker . Speaker Down Ic on (F8) : Decreases speaker volume . Speaker Up Ic on (F9) : Increases the speaker volume .
3-10 Chapter 3: Getting Star ted Window s icon : D isplays the start menu. Menu with pointer icon : A c tivates the pr oper ties menu and is equivalent t o right-click ing the touchpad/mouse on an object.
ASUS Eee PC 3-11 First-time Startup F or the first time you star t your Eee PC, the Windows wizard will launch automatically and lead you thr ough setting up your prefer ences and some basic information. F ollow the wizard instructions to finish the initialization: 1.

T ype your computer’ s name in the Computer name bo x and click Next to continue . 7. F ollow the on-screen instructions to register with Microsoft and finish the initialization.

3-16 Chapter 3: Getting Star ted Adjusting the displa y resolution Click the ASUS EeePC T ray Utility icon in the Notification area to adjust the display resolution. Select the resolution based on your needs. Y ou need not scroll up and down the screen when you select L CD Compress Mode .

When connecting, you ma y hav e to enter a password . 2. Select the wireless access point you want t o connect to from the list and click Connect to build the connection.
ASUS Eee PC 4-3 4. After a connection has been established , the connection is shown on the list. 5. Y ou can see the wireless network icon in the Notification area. The wireless connection icon disappears when you P ress + (<Fn> + <F2>) to disable the WLAN function.
4-4 Chapter 4: Using the Eee PC C onfiguring a network connection If you want to obtain netw or k access, connect the network cable, with RJ-45 connectors on each end , to the network por t on the Eee PC and the other end to a hub or switch.

Windows Works are the default applications to open and e dit the related documents .

If Autorun is NO T enabled in your computer , browse the contents of the support DVD to locate the file ASSETUP .
ASUS Eee PC 5-3 Driv ers menu The Drivers menu shows a vailable device drivers when the sy stem detects installed devices. Install the necessar y drivers to activat e the devices.

The Suppor t DVD provides a comprehensiv e recovery solution that quick ly restores y our system to its original working state, provided that y our system drive is in good working order .
