2. DOS / Windows 3.x Installation Two config uration software programs are provided with the IOP-241: a Client Driver and a card Enab ler. Both of these progra ms are e xecuted from DOS (bef ore e nteri ng Window s) and allow operation of the IOP-241 in both the DOS and Wind ows 3.
2.1.1 Client Driver Installation The following procedure is used to install the IOP-241 Client Driver: 1. Copy the file IOP241C L. SYS from the customer software CD- ROM directory PCMCIADOSCLIENTS onto the root directory of the system hard drive. 2. Usi ng a n ASCII te xt ed itor , ope n the system CON FI G.
2.1.2 Command Line Options The Cl ient D ri ver accepts up to eigh t command l ine ar guments fr om the user to deter mine the con figuratio n of the IOP-241. If any argum ents are provided, t he Clien t Driver will attempt to configure the IOP-241 with the options specifi ed i n the order they are entered on the command l ine.
2.1.2. 4 Example 4 DEVICE = C:IOP241CL.SYS (i11,b300) A sin gle comm an d line argume nt is pro vided. Beca us e t he p aram et er or der is not signific an t, the C lient Driv er will atte mpt to c onfigu re an IOP-241 inserted int o any socket wit h a base address o f 300H and IRQ 11.
2.1.3 Common Problems 2.1.3. 1 Generic Client Drivers Man y C ard and So cke t S erv ices packag es in clude a generic c lien t driv er (or Su perC lient ) whic h co nfigures st an dard I/ O devices . If o ne o f t hes e gen eric clien t drivers is ins t alled, it may configure the IOP-241 causing the client dri ver to fail install ation.
2.2 IOP-241 Enabler for DOS For systems that ar e not operati ng PCMCIA Card and Sock et Services sof tware , the IOP- 241 DOS Ena bler ma y be used t o ena ble an d co nfigu re t he c ard.
2.2.1 Enabler Installation The following procedure is used to install the IOP-241 Enabler: 1. Copy the f il e I OP241E N. EXE fr om the customer sof twa re CD -ROM (direct ory=P CM C IA DOS ENABLERS ) o nt o t he r oot di rector y of the system hard drive.
2.2.2 Command Line Options To configure an IOP-241, the Enab ler requires one command li ne argument fr om the user to dete rmi ne the confi gura tion of the ca rd.
2.2.2. 3 Example 3 DEVICE = C:IOP241EN.EXE (i10,b340,s1) The Enabler will co nfigure t he IOP-241 in so cket 1 with a bas e address of 340H and IR Q 10 using a configuration memory window at segment D000. Note that the parameter order is not significant.
2.2.3. 3 Card and Socket Services Software In order to use th e IOP-241 Enabler f or DOS, the system MUST NOT b e confi gured wi th C ard and S o cke t Se rvic es so ftwa re. If C ard a nd So ck et S ervices so ftware is in st alle d, t he IO P-24 1 Enable r may in terfe re wit h it s o pera tio n an d with t he devic e(s) it co nt rols .
3. Windows 95/98® Installation To all ow easy conf iguration of the IOP-241, a Wi ndows 95/98 "INF " co nfigu rat ion file has been written for the hardware, (DAQPCARD.INF). 3.1 Installing the IOP-241 Under Windows 95/98 1. Insert the IOP-241 into any available PC Card socket.
3. Open the Propertie s dialog box for the IOP-241, then click the Reso urces tab to vi e w the Input/Output Range a nd I nterr upt Request resour ce al loca tions, (see Fi gur e 3-1). 4. To access t he IOP-241, use these system resources al located by Windows 95/98 or see Changing Resource Settings with Device Manager .
5. To mod if y either of the resour ce settings cl ick the r esource name and click the Change Setting button. 6. An Edit Re sour ce windo w will ope n. Inside the Edit Re so urc e window clic k on th e up/dow n arrow s to the right of the r esource va lue.
4. Theory of Operation 4.1 I/O Port Description The 24 dig ital I/O channels provided by the IOP-241 are grouped into three different ports with each po rt containing eight di gital I/O channels. These t hree ports are controlled v ia the Data P ort A Co ntro l Re gister, Dat a P ort B C ontrol R egister and Dat a Po rt C Co nt rol R egist er.
4.2 Port C Interrupt Description The eight Port C I/O channels (DAT A23 - DATA16) may also be config ured as interrupt sources. If any of these ei ght I/O cha nnels ar e used to gener ate an inter rupt, the I/O channe l must be config ured for input by l atching the appropria te bi t in the Data Por t C Control Regi ster to '1 '.
5. Register Descriptions The program registers of the IOP-241 occupy eight adjacent bytes of I/O address space. These registers must be programmed to control the o peration of the IOP-241.
5.2 Data Port B Control Register (Base + 1) The Da ta Port B C ontro l Re gist er co nt ain s t he cont rol bit s for I/O c ha nne ls DATA8 - DATA15. Each I/O cha nn el ma y be indiv idually program med fo r inp ut by writ ing a '1' to th e appropriate bit of this register.
5.4 Port C Interrupt Enable Register (Base + 5) INT7 - INT0 may be en abled by writ ing t he approp riat e bits in t he P o rt C Int errup t En able Regi ste r. T h e cor r espond i ng I/O cha nnel must b e conf ig ur e d as an i nput channel via the D ata Po rt C Co nt rol R egister if an int errup t is to be ge nera ted.
5.5 Interrupt Mode Control Register (Base + 6) The mode of both the ex ternal inter rupt and the Port C interr upts may be contr oll ed wi th the Int errup t M ode C ontro l Re gist er. The up per n ibble (4 bit s) an d lowe r nibble (4 bits ) of t he Po rt C interrup ts may be c onfigu red separat ely.
5.7 Interrupt Acknowledge Register (Write Only) (Base + 7) Writ ing a '1' t o any bit in the Interru pt Ackn owle dge Re gist er will ac kno wledge t he interrup t gener ating condi tion w hich w as represented i n the corr espondi ng b it of the Inte rrupt Status Regi ster .
(2) External Interrupt Source (a) The following must be programmed: (i) Interrupt source enabled via Interrupt Mode Control Register. (ii) Mode selected via Interrupt Mode Control Register. (b) Interrupt generated if ExtIntStat of Interrupt Mode Control Register is '1'.
5.10 Programming Example The foll owing C program segment demonstrates how to program an IOP-241 located at I/O base address 300h. Po rt A will be pro grammed as out put , and 55h will be lat ched at Port A. Po rt B will be con figure d with it 's up pe r 3 bits as ou tp ut and it ' s lo wer fiv e bits as inp ut .
