3 INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing the HJA-301 GOsmart P ace and Distance T r acker Featuring ACTIVE ENGINE. The HJA-301 GOsmart Pace and Di stance T racker Featuring ACTIVE ENGINE features the best technology to ensure accuracy and ease of use.
4 FEATURES Active Engi ne Active Engine is an exclusive technology designed by OMRON to measure physical ac tivity intensity to provide a more accurate calculation of calorie s and fat grams burned. The HJA-301 measures the amount of calories and fat burned based on a concept call Metabolic Equivalent of T ask or , MET .

6 IMPORT ANT SAFETY INFORMATION Operate the unit only as intended. Do not use for any other purpose. Do not swing the unit by the strap. Swinging the unit while holding the strap may cause an injury . Do not put the unit in the back pocket of your shorts or trousers.

8 SETTINGS SETTING THE TIME, W EIGHT, HEIGHT AND S TRIDE LENGTH The unit comes with the battery installed. When you use the unit for the first time or you want to change settings, follow the st eps below . For setting range details refer to “Specifications” on page 29.
9 SETTINGS 2. Setting t he hour . A) Press or to select the desired value for a setting. • Press ( ) to advance (go back) one. • Hold ( ) down to advance (go back) rapidly . B) Press to confirm the setting. 3. Repeat step 2 to set the minute. 4. Repeat step 2 to set the weight.
10 SETTINGS 1. Display the scr een with work out time and dist ance. 2. Press for 2 seconds . 3. Set the workou t distance for measuring stri de length. Press or to select the desired value for a setting. • Press ( ) to advance (go back) one. • Hold ( ) down to advance (go back) rapidly .
11 ATT ACHIN G THE UNIT The HJA-301 can be used in any direction (up/down, sideways, flat) in a bag, pocke t, at the waist or hanging from your neck on a lanyard (not included). For best accuracy during your workouts, or while in W orkout Mode, attach the unit in the holder at your waist.
12 ATT ACHIN G THE UNIT Hanging the unit fr om your neck. Attach a secure string or cord to the unit. Pl ace the string around your ne ck and hang the unit as illustrated. NOTE: Make sure the string is correctly sized to easily remove the unit from around your neck.
13 USING TH E UNIT USING THE WORKOUT MODE Use the W orkout Mode to separately track pace, distance, time and calories burned and step s during a specific worko ut time. 1. Att ach the unit at your waist (refer to p age 1 1). 2. St ar t a workout. Press for 2 seconds to start W orkout Mode.
14 USING TH E UNIT COUNTING S TEPS (WO RKOUT MODE IS OFF) The unit also tracks daily steps, distance, calories and fat burned from daily activities, even whe n the W orkout Mode is not being used.
15 USING TH E UNIT THE UNIT MAY NOT COUNT STEP S CORRECTLY IN THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS: When running When the unit is attached somewhere other than your waist. Irregular movement • When the unit is placed in a bag that moves irregularly because it hits your foot or clothes.
16 ABOUT THE DISPLAY ABOUT THE INDIVI DUAL DI SPLAYS The values do not change after W orkout Mode has been stopped. NOTES: • The average pace displays the average pace for the time between when W orkout Mode started and when it was stopped. In order to keep an accurate record, press to stop W orkout Mode as soon as you have finished your workout.
17 ABOUT THE DISPLAY NOTE: If a workout continues for more th an 30 minutes, the message “Good job” scrolls on the display after you finish W orkout Mode. Step count/Time display Ti me Step count Displays the t otal for the da y , including those in a workout.

T o stop W orkout Mode, press for 2 seconds at any time.
20 USING THE MEMORY FUNCTION The unit stores your fitness achievements in memory for up to 7 days or 7 sessio ns for W orkout Mode. There are two ways you can view your data in memory . Refer to A. and B. below for more information. NOTE: The time must be c orrectly set in the unit.
21 USING THE MEMORY FUNCTION B. VIEW ALL INFORMATION FOR EACH DAY 1. Press button to dis play the day . 2. Then pres s button to switch betw een all the stored data f or that day .
22 BATTERY REPLACEMEN T Low battery indicator When the low battery indicator appears on the display , immediately replace the batt ery with a new CR2032 battery .
23 BATTERY REPLACEMEN T ABOUT THE BATTERY SAVING MODE (SLEEP MODE) After 5 minutes with no button being pressed, the display will automatically go into sleep mode and no information will be displayed on the scr e en. However, the unit continues to track steps, distance, cal ories burned, etc.
24 BATTERY REPLACEMEN T 1. Remove the sc rew on the battery cover located on the back of the unit, a nd remove the battery cover . Use the small screwdriver included with this unit to remove the screw on the battery cover . 2. Remove the ol d batter y .
25 USING THE SYSTEM RESET FUNCTION Use the syste m reset function in the following cases: • When you want to reset the initial setup data (weight, height, clock, etc.) • When you want to delete all data TO RESET THE SETUP DA T A: 1. Press the SET button on the back of the unit.
26 CARE AND MA INTENANCE T o keep the unit in the best condit ion and pr otect it from damage follow the dir ections listed below: CAUTION Do not disassemble or modify the unit. Changes or modifications not approved by Omron Healthcare will void the user warranty .
27 T ROUBLESHOOTING T IPS Problem Probable Cause How to Correct The low batter y indicator blinks or appears continuously . The battery is low or worn. Replace the battery with a new one (CR2032), refer to page 22. The display of the W orkout does not change.
