3 EN Introduction Thank you for purchasing the OM RON M1 Compact Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor . The OMRON M1 Compact is a manual inflation blood pressure monitor , operating on the oscillometric prin ciple. It measures your blood pressure and pulse rate simply and quickly .
4 Important Safety Informa tion Consult your doctor during pregnan cy , arrhythmia and arteriosclerosis. Y ou should never change the dosage of medication prescribed by your doctor .
5 Important S afety Informatio n EN • Do not inflate the arm cuff over 299 mmHg. If the cuff is over inflated, it can cause internal bleeding. • Do not use a mobile phone near the unit. This could cause a malfunction. (Battery Usage) • If battery fluid should get on your sk in or clo thing, immediately rinse with plenty of clean water .

9 2.Preparation EN 2. Prep aration 2.1 Inst alling/Replacing the Batteries 1. T urn the main unit upside down. 2. Slide the battery cover in the direction of the arrow while pressing the ribbed part of the cover .
10 2.Preparati on Battery Life & Replacement If the battery low symbol ( ) appears on the display , replace all four batteries at the same time. - When the batte ry low symbol ( ) st ar ts to blink, you will still be able to use the unit for a short while.
11 3.Using the Unit EN 3. Using the Unit 3.1 How to Sit Correctly When T aking a Measurement Correct posture during measur ement is necessary to get accurate results. Notes: • Measurements should be taken in a quiet place and you should be in a relaxed, seated position.
12 3.Using the Unit Note: Y ou can take a measurement on either your left or right arm. The blood pressure can differ between the right arm and the left arm and therefore also the measured blood pressure values can be d if ferent. Omron recommends to always use the same arm for measurement.
13 3.Using the Unit EN 3.2 Applying the Arm Cuff Be sure to wrap the arm cuff correctly so that you get accurate results. Measurements can be taken in light clothing. However , please remove thick clothes, such as sweaters, before taking a reading. 1.
14 3.Using the Unit 3. Position the arm correctly . T aking measuremen ts on the right arm Apply the cuff so that the air tube is at the side of your elbow . • Be careful not to rest your arm on the air tube, or otherwise restrict the flow of air to the cuff.
15 3.Using the Unit EN 3.3 T aking a Reading 1. Preparation 1) Press the air release button to release any air in the arm cuff. 2) Press the I/O button to turn the unit on. 3) All items in the display will be displayed briefly . 4) The deflation symbol will flash.
16 3.Using the Unit Notes: • If the reinflation symbol ( ) appears, squeeze the inflation bulb to re-inflate the arm cuff. • Do not inflate the arm cuff more than necessary . 3. Measurement starts . Measurement starts automatically after you stop inflating the arm cuff.
17 3.Using the Unit EN 5. Check the measurement results. The unit automatically stores blood pressure and pulse rate into its memory , Refer to “3.4 Using the Memory Function”. Note: Wait 2-3 minutes before taking another blood pressure measurement.
18 3.Using the Unit Important: • If your systolic or diastolic pressur e is outside the standard range, the heartbeat symbol will blink when the measurement result is displayed. Recent research suggests that the following values can be used as a guide to high blood pressure for measurements taken at home.
19 3.Using the Unit EN What is Irregular H eartbeat? An irregular heartbeat is a heartbeat rhythm that varies by more than 25% from the average heartbeat rhythm detected while the unit is measuring the systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
20 3.Using the Unit 3.4 Using the Memory Function The unit automatically stores up to 14 sets of measurement values (blood pressure and pulse rate). When 14 sets of measurement values are stored, the oldest record is deleted to save the most recent values.
21 3.Using the Unit EN 3. Press the M button repeatedly to cycle through the previous measurement results. Keep the button pressed down to cycle rapidly through the previous results. If the irregular heartbeat symbol was displayed after a measurement, it will also be stored in the memory with the result of that measurement.
22 3.Using the Unit T o Delete All the Values S tored in Memory Y ou cannot delete individual stored readings, all the readings in the unit will be deleted. 1. Press the l/O button to turn the unit on. 2. When the heartbeat symbol ( ) appears on the display , fir st press the M button.

Refer to Chapter 8. Pressure is too low . Press the inflation bulb to inflate the arm cuf f until the reinflation symbol goes out .
26 5.Handling Errors and Problems 5.2 T roubleshooting Problem Cause Remedy The reading is extremely low (or high). Arm cuff not applied correctly . Apply the arm cuff correctly . Refer to section 3.2. Movement or talking during measurement. Remain still and do not talk during measurement.

28 6.Maintenance and Stor age 6. Maintenance and Stora ge Maintenance T o protect your unit from damage, please observe the following: • Do not subject the main unit, cuff and inflation bulb to extreme temperatures, humidity , moistur e or direct sunlight.
29 6.Maintenance and Storage EN Sto ra ge Keep the unit in its storage case when not in use. 1. Unplug the air tube from the air connector. 2. Gently fold the air tube into the arm cuff. Note: Do not bend the air tube excessively . 3. Place the arm cuff, inflation bulb and main unit in the storage case.
