12 Disc (A udio CD and MP3) and USB Flash Drive (MP3) Notes Precautions f or Playbac k Compact discs (CDs) with the following logo on the label surface can be used. Do not use discs designed for purposes other than audio, such as CD-R OMs for PC use. Abnormal noise could damage the CD receiv er.
13 Disc (A udio CD and MP3) and US B Flash Drive (MP3) Notes —Continued Precaution s fo r Inkjet Printab le Discs Do not lea ve a CD-R/CD-R W having a label printed with an inkjet printer in the CD recei ver for a long time. The disc could get stuck in the CD receiv er, or could damage the CD receiv e r.
14 Connecting Antenna Connecting FM Ante nna This section explains ho w to conne ct the supplied indoor FM antenna. The CD receiv er won’t pick up an y radio signals if no antenna is connected, so you must c onnect the antenna to use the tuner .
15 Connecting Other Components About Connections • Before making any connect ions, read the manuals supplied with your other components. • Don’t connect the po wer cord until you’ ve completed and double-checked all connections. Push plugs in all the way to make good connections (loose connections can cause noise or malfunctions).
16 Basic Operations Press the On/Standby [ 8 ] button. The CD recei ver comes on, and the display lights up. Press the On/Standby [ 8 ] b utton again to set the CD receiv er to St andby . Y ou can also use the [ 8 ON/ST ANDBY] button on the CD receiv er.
17 Pla ying CDs 1 Press the CD receiver’ s [ 0 ] button to open the disc tra y . Tip: • Pressing the [ 0 ] button while the CD recei ver is on Standby will turn on the CD recei ver and open the disc tray . 2 Place CD on the tray with the label-side facing up.
18 Playing CDs —Con tinued The files on an MP3 CD can be located at the disc’ s root le vel or within a fold er . A folder can contain additi onal fold ers, with other folders inside them in a hierarchic al structure as shown in the follo wing illustration.
19 Playing CDs —Continu ed Y ou can switch the display by pressing the remote controller’ s [DISPLA Y ] button repeatedly . 1 During playback, press the [DISPLA Y] button repeatedl y to dis play the f ollowing MP3 information. The information is show n in the following order .
20 Pla ying Y our iP od/iPhone • Before using your iPod/iPhone with the CD recei ver, be sure to update your iP od/iPhone with the latest software, a vailabl e from the Apple W eb site. • If you leav e your iPod/iPhone paused when using it on its ow n, ev entually it will go into hibernation.
21 Playing Y our iP od/iPhone —Continu ed While reading the contents of your iPod/iPhone, the message “Conn ecting” appears on the CD receiver’s display. “iPod” appears on the display of the CD receiver. If your iPod/iPhone is not co n nected properly, “No Device” appea rs.
22 Listening to the Radio When tuned to a station, the T uned ( ) indicator appears. When receiving a stereo FM signal, the FM ST indicator appears as well. The [MODE] b utton is used to select Auto mode or Mono mode. In Auto mode, the output will be stereo or mono depending on the stati on being recei ved.
23 Listening to the Radio —Continued DA B S e t u p Use the follow ing functions and settings to set up D AB digital radio. 1 Press the [MENU] button. 2 Use the Up/Down [ q ]/[ w ] buttons to select the item you want to set, and then press the [ENTER] button.
24 Listening to the Radio —Continued W ith the Preset Write function, you can manually preset indi vidual DAB and FM r a dio stations. Pre sets make it easy to select your fa vorite stations and eliminate the need to tune the radio ma nually each time you want to change stations.
25 Pla ying a USB Flash Drive If an iPod/iPhone is connected to the iPod dock, disconnect the iPod/iPhone from the iPod dock. A USB flash driv e cannot be used if an iPod/iPhone is connected. 1 Press the [iP od] button to select “iP od/ USB”. Alternatively , you can use the CD receiver’ s [INPUT] button.
26 Using the Timer The CD recei ver has a pro grammable timer for automated playbac k, and a sleep timer for tu rning the CD receiv er off after a specified period. Y ou can also use the alarm playback function of your iPod to initiate timer playbac k on the CD recei ver.
27 Using the Timer —Continued Once a timer has been programmed, you can turn it on or off as necessary . For exam ple, while you’ re on holiday , you may want to turn off the timer you use as an early morning alarm. 1 Press the [TIMER] bu tton repeatedly until “Timer On” or “Timer Off” appears.
28 T roub leshooting If you hav e any trouble using the CD receiv er, look for a solution in this section. Can’t turn on the CD receiver. • Make sure that the power cord is properl y plugged into the wall outlet (see page 15). • Make sure that the po wer cord is properly plugged into the CD receiv er’ s A C INLET (see page 15).
29 T r oubleshooting —Continued Audio performance. • Audio performance will be at its best a bout 10 to 30 minutes after the CD rece iver has been turned on and had time to warm up. • Using cable ties to b undle audio cables with speaker or power cables may degr ade the sound quality , so don’t do it.
30 T roubleshooting —Continued Can’t recharge the iPod/iPhone. • Check the iPod/iPhone connection. • Depending on the state of your iPod/iPhone, the CD receiv er might not be able to charge it. Try using the dedicated charging method provided for the iPod/iPhone.
31 T r oubleshooting —Continued No sound is heard from your turntable. • Make sure the turntable has a b uilt- in phono equalizer . If the turntable does n’t hav e a phono equalizer built-in, you must provide one. The timer doesn’t work. • Make sure the clock has been set correctly (see page 25).
