6 Getting Started Memory Preservation This unit does not require memory preser vation batteries. A built-in memory power bac kup system preser v es the contents of memory during power failures and e ven when the PO WER switch is set to OFF . The PO WER switch m ust be set to ON in order to charge the backups system.

9 Pla yback side This section shows y ou how to handle, clean, and store discs. Cleaning Discs • Finger prints and dust on the disc cause picture and sound deterioration. Wipe the disc from the center outw ards with a soft cloth. Always k eep the disc clean.
10 Connecting to a TV Before connecting • Refer also to the instruction manual of the TV . • When you connect the D VD Receiver to the TV , be sure to turn off the pow er and unplug both the units from the mains before making an y connections. • Connect the D VD Receiv er to the TV directly .

12 12 P ositioning Speakers T wo speaker systems (SPEAKERS A and SPEAKERS B) can be connected to the D VD Receiv er . The SPEAKERS A system is to be placed in the main room, and the SPEAKERS B system is to be placed in a second room.

23 DVD Tip to obtain a higher quality picture Occasionally , some picture noise not usually visible during a normal broadcast may appear on the TV screen while playing a D VD video because the high resolution pictures on these discs include a lot of information.

34 Enjoying the Sound Effects The surround sound of the D VD Receiver enab les you to enjo y the presence of a movie theater or concer t hall in your room. Before using an y sound effect, mak e sure the Speaker Setup configurations ha v e been set (see page 17).
35 DOLBY DIGITAL DTS PCM MPEG Theater-Dimensional (T -D)* mode The ideal home theater is realized b y the multichannel sound reproduction with the complete speaker configur ation and speaker positioning described on page 12. Howe ver , sometimes it is difficult to meet all those conditions.
36 Choosing Theater-Dimensional Mode Theater-Dimensional mode is the technology which controls the characteristics of the sounds reaching the listener ’ s left and right ears, theref ore, there is a s weet spot where y ou can best experience the Theater-Dimensional eff ects.
