8 Introduction —Continued Supported Discs The D V -CP706 supports the follo wing discs. • The D V -CP706 supports D VD-R/+R dual layer discs. • The D V -CP706 does not support disc types not listed. • The D V -CP706 supports 8 cm and 12 cm discs.
9 Introduction —Continued Disc Content Organization ■ D VD-Video Format D VD-V ideo discs contain titles, which are usually subdi- vided into chapters. ■ A udio CD Format Audio CDs contain tracks. ■ MP3/WMA Files MP3 and WMA files are typically organized into folders.
10 Introduction —Continued Handling Discs •N ev er touch the underside of a disc. Always hold discs by the edge, as shown. •N ev er attach adhesiv e tape or sticky labels to discs. Cleaning Discs •F or best results, keep your discs clean. Fingerprints and dust can affect the sound and picture quality and should be remov ed as follows.

O RESOLUTION button (24) This button is used to set the video resolution of the HDMI OUT , and to turn the HDMI OUT on or off.
17 Bef ore Using the D V -CP706 Notes: • If the remote controller doesn’t w ork reliably , try replacing both batteries. • Don’t mix ne w and old batteries, or different types of batteries. • If you intend not to use the remote controller for a long time, remov e the batteries to prevent possible leakage and corrosion.
18 Connecting the D V -CP706 This chapter explains ho w to connect the D V -CP706 to your other A V components. • Read the manuals supplied with your A V components. • Don’t connect the po wer cord until you’ ve completed all audio and video connections.
19 Connecting the D V -CP706 —Continued This section explains ho w to connect the D V -CP706 to your TV or projector . See page 21 for connecting a TV or projector that supports HDMI. In this hookup example, the TV handles the audio and video. T o enjoy Dolby Digital or DTS (surround), you’ll need a compatible decoder (see page 20).
20 Connecting the D V -CP706 —Continued Notes: • Before making any connections, turn of f the DV -CP706 and your TV and disconnect their power cords from the wall outlets. • Also refer to the connection information supplied with your TV . • Connect the D V -CP706’ s video outputs directly to your TV .
21 Connecting the D V -CP706 —Continued Analog Connection Use an RCA/phono audio cable to connect the DV -CP706’ s ANALOG A UDIO OUTPUTs to a pair of analog audio inputs on your stereo amp, as shown. Note: • When you use the analog audio outputs, don’t play DTS CDs or don’t select DTS soundtracks on D VD-V ideo discs.
22 Connecting the D V -CP706 —Continued Notes: • The D V -CP706 supports HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), a protection system for digital video.
23 Po wering Up & Setting Up the D V -CP706 Before connecting the power cord, connect all your A V components (see page 18 to page 22). Don’t for get to turn on your TV or projector and select the video input to which the D V -CP706 is connected.

25 Basic Pla ybac k This section explains ho w to load and remove discs. Notes: •Y ou can load up to six discs. Y ou don’t ha ve to load all six discs ev ery time. • When the disc tray is closed, all of the disc indicators appear until the D V -CP706 has checked each bay for the presence of a disc.
26 Basic Playbac k —Continued This section explains ho w to load and remove discs with- out stopping playback. The section explains ho w to select loaded discs. Notes: • The type of disc currently selected is shown on the dis- play: D VD, or CD (see page 13).
27 Basic Playbac k —Continued This section explains ho w to start, pause, and stop play- back. Notes: • During playback, you can select chapters or tracks by using the Next [ ] and Previous [ ] b uttons. • When you stop playback of a D VD-V ideo disc, the DV -CP706 remembers the point at which playback was stopped.
28 Basic Playbac k —Continued D VD-V ideo discs usually hav e an on-screen menu from which you can select titles, chapters, and other options, including foreign language soundtracks, subtitles, and audio formats (e.g., Dolby Digital or DTS). Notes: • Not all D VD-V ideo discs hav e menus.
29 Basic Playbac k —Continued On the disc navigation windo w , you can select CD tracks or MP3, WMA, or JPEG files. Notes: •Y ou can use the Random Playback function to play a random selection of MP3/WMA files (page 37).

Notes: •Y ou can also select chapters by using the number but- tons, without opening the Search window . • If the current D VD-V ideo disc contains only one title, you won’ t be able to select other titles.
31 Basic Playbac k —Continued W ith the T ime Search function you can locate specific points in time. Notes: • The T ime Search function works only within the cur - rently playing title (D VD-V ideo) or track (audio CD). For e xample, if the current title is one hour long and you enter the time 1 hour , 30 minutes, nothing will happen.
32 Basic Playbac k —Continued The section explains ho w to fast forward and re verse. Note: • No sound is output during fast forward or f ast reverse of a D VD-V ideo, MP3, or WMA disc. W ith the Frame-by-Frame Playback function, you can forward playback one frame at a time.
33 Basic Playbac k —Continued W ith the Slow-motion Playback function you can watch a scene slowly either forw ard or backward. Notes: • No sound is output during slow-motion playback. • The slow-motion speed indication is only approxi- mate, and the actual speed will vary from disc to disc.
34 Basic Playbac k —Continued The D V -CP706 supports JPEG CDs, so you can vie w your photos on TV either indi vidually or as a slideshow . Notes: •Y ou can view JPEG images in high definition by changing the HD JPEG mode setting (see page 45). • The Memory and Random functions cannot be used with JPEG files.
35 Basic Playbac k —Continued W ith the Chain mode function, you can play all discs, all D VD-V ideo discs, or all audio CDs and MP3/WMA discs consecutiv ely as if they were one big disc. Note: • JPEG files are skipped during Chain mode playback.
36 Ad vanced Pla yback W ith the Repeat Playback function you can play the cur- rent disc, title, chapter , track, or folder of MP3/WMA files ov er-and-ov er again.
37 Adv anced Playbac k —Continued W ith the A–B Repeat Playback function you can play a specified section ov er-and-ov er again. Notes: • A–B Repeat Playback may not work with some D VD-V ideo discs. • In some cases, the A and B points may be at slightly different points to the ones you specified.
38 Adv anced Playbac k —Continued W ith the Memory Playback function, you can create your own memory list of up to 32 titles, chapters, or tracks. Inserting New Items in the List Memory Playbac k 1 Press the [MEMOR Y] button. The Memory List window appears on- screen, as shown.
39 Adv anced Playbac k —Continued Deleting Items from the List Editing Steps • Deleting the memory list: Press the Stop button to stop playback of the memory list, and while “Memory” is displayed on-screen, press the [CLR] button. The memory list is deleted and “Memory Clear” is displayed on-screen.
40 Adv anced Playbac k —Continued Some D VD-V ideo discs feature multiple camera angles that allows you to vie w scenes from different angles. If the currently playing D VD-V ideo disc features multiple camera angles, the camera indicator appears on the display .

44 Configuring the D V -CP706 —Continued This section explains ho w to use the on-screen setup menus. TV Shape W ith this setting you can select a picture format to match the aspect ratio of your TV . 4:3 Letter box: Choose this option if you hav e a standard TV (4:3 aspect ratio).
45 Configuring the D V -CP706 —Continued View Mode W ith this setting you can adjust the aspect of the picture so that it fits your TV screen. Due to your TV’ s aspect ratio setting and the D VD’ s aspect ratio, black bars may appear abov e and below the picture or at the sides and the aspect of the picture may be unsuitable.
46 Configuring the D V -CP706 —Continued Video Black Le vel W ith this setting you can adjust the picture blackness of analog video output. Light: Blacks are lighter , and the entire picture becomes lighter . Dark: Blacks are darker , and the entire picture becomes darker .
47 Configuring the D V -CP706 —Continued On-Screen Language W ith this setting you can select a language for the on- screen setup menus and messages. Select one of the displayed language. Disc Menu Language W ith this setting you can select your preferred language for disc menus.
48 Configuring the D V -CP706 —Continued P arental Lock W ith the Parental Lock function you can block access to certain scenes that the authors hav e flagged as being unsuitable for children.
49 Configuring the D V -CP706 —Continued HDMI Control W ith this setting, you can turn RIHD control over HDMI on or off. On (default): RIHD control on.

51 Tr oubleshooting Symptom P ossible cause Remedy Can’t turn on the DV -CP706? The power cord is not connected. Connect the power cord to a suitable w all outlet. External interference is affecting the D V -CP706’ s digital circuitry . T urn off the D V -CP706, wait five seconds, then try turning it on again.
52 Tr oubleshooting —Continued Symptom P ossible cause Remedy No sound? No Digital A udio Output? The Digital/HDMI Audio Out setting is set to Off. Change the Digital/HDMI Audio Out setting to either All or PCM (page 46). Y our TV or A V receiv er doesn’t support Dolby Digital.
53 Tr oubleshooting —Continued Buttons on the DV -CP706 work OK but those on the remote con- troller don’t? There are no batteries in the remote controller . Install new batteries (page 17). The batteries are flat. Replace with new batteries (page 17).
54 Tr oubleshooting —Continued If you’ re using an HDMI connection and there’ s no picture or sound, you can check the status of the HDMI connection by pressing and holding down the D V -CP706’ s [DISPLA Y] button for 10 seconds until a message ID appears on the display .
