User ’s Manual 3 1. Overview The V ersatile MPEG-4 DV R is an integrated digital video recorder that combines the features of a time-lapse audio / video recorder , a multiplexer , and a video server to create a single security CCTV so l ution.

User ’s Manual 5 1.2 Product Application Diagram Connect t he unit with other devices as shown in the system diagram to complete a video surveillance solution. The figure shows also the expandability and flexibility of this digital recording system.

User ’s Manual 7 2.4 Rear Panel Co nnections There are various co n nectors on the rear panel used for V ersa til e MPEG -4 DVR installations. The following figure shows the connectors by name; and followed by the detailed description of each connector .
User ’s Manual 8 LAN Connector (RJ-45) The V ersatile MPEG-4 DVR is capable of networking. The LAN port opens the door of V e r satile MPEG-4 DVR to Ethernet by the Internet. Power Jack The V er satile MPEG-4 DVR h as a free volt age AC po w er connection jack.
User ’s Manual 9 RS-232C The u nit p rov ides a RS-232C communication port for send ing and re ceiv ing signals. USB Connector (x2) There are two USB2.0 ports o n the rear p anel for users to conn ec t external USB devices to the un i t, such as ThumbDrive or CD-R W .
User ’s Manual 10 3.1.1 LED Indication The V e rsatile MPEG- 4 DVR LE Ds on the front panel are described as follows. Network LED (Green) The LED should b e l it w hen V ersatile MPEG-4 DVR is connected to a network and blink when the d ata is being transferred.
User ’s Manual 1 1 CHANNEL • W hi le the unit is u nder b oth Live and Playback mode, press the CHANNEL key to view the correspond ing v ideo in full screen. Th e nu mber of the CHANNEL keys corresponds to the number of cameras supported by the unit.
User ’s Manual 12 SEARCH In both Playback and Live mode, user c an press S EARCH to call the Search Menu f or searching and playing ba ck recorded video by date and time or events. ESC Press to cancel or exi t f rom certain mode or O SD Menu without changing the settings.
User ’s Manual 13 • W hi le playing back video , you can use the shuttle ring to select different speed of f orw ard and backward playing. Ro t ating the s huttle ring counterclockwise causes the unit to p la yback into faster forward/ backward playing speed.

User ’s Manual 17 3.4 System Date / T ime Setting User can set the current da t e, t i me and other OSD parameters in Date/T ime Menu. In OSD Main Menu, s elect <System Setup> and press ENTER, then select <Date/T ime> to access the Date/T ime Menu; t he menu disp lay s a s follows.
User ’s Manual 18 Date Display Mode This f unction allows user to set the OSD display type of the date / time. There are three options to select f ro m: <Y/M/D>, <M /D/Y> o r <D/M/Y>. “Y” represe nts “Y ear”, “M” represents “Month” and “D” represents “Day”.
User ’s Manual 19 3.5 Record Sche dule / Quality Setting The Record Setup Menu allows user to set recording quality , re cording schedules, and other recordin g parameters. Adm inistrator's passw ord is required to enter <Record Setup> Menu.
User ’s Manual 20 3.5.2 Schedule Set up The S c hedule Setup is used to set the day an d n ig ht t im e, or weekend recording sch edule. Select <Sch edule Setup> from t he Record S e tup Menu and press ENTER; the following men u is disp layed.
User ’s Manual 21 3.5.4 Per Camera Configuration This fun cti on is use d t o se t the Da y / Night / W eeke nd PPS (Picture per Second) and Quality for each channel. The Preset Configuration must be se t to <OFF> f or a cc essing th ese schedules.
User ’s Manual 22 4.1.1 Vie w ing Modes The V e rsatile MPEG-4 DVR supplies users versatile ways o f view ing b oth live and recorded video. Following presents these view formats. Viewing in Full Screen Press wanted CHANNEL k ey directly to view the corresponding camera image in full view format.
User ’s Manual 23 Vie w ing in Sequence Mode Automatic sequence fun ction can be used in any view mo de. Select certain view format a n d press SEQ to toggle the automatic s equ ential se q uence, press ESC to stop s equencing. The figure below displays the 4-camera sequencing view modes.
User ’s Manual 24 LEFT (Reverse Playback) The key is used to reverse the recorded video while the unit is p lay ing back. Press the key repeatedly to incre ase the speed of reverse play back by 1 × , 2 × , 4 × , 8 × , 16 × , or 32 × . RIGHT (Forward Playback) The key is u sed to play the recorded v ideo f ast forward.
User ’s Manual 25 The four windows on t he top-left play back the reco rded v ideo of ch annel 1 to channel 4, respectively , and the rest windows display t he live image of channel 1 to channel 4.
User ’s Manual 26 4.3 Searching Rec orded V ideo The V ersatile MPEG-4 DVR is capable of searching and playing back recorded video by date and time o r events. Entering the specific date and time, the unit w ill then search for the matched video and play i t on the monitor .
User ’s Manual 27 Search b y Event Follow the steps to search video by event. • Press SEARCH key to ent er t he <Search> Menu. • T o s earch event video that was recorded on a specific camera, use LEFT / RIGHT to move the cursor and press ENTER to select or de-select a channel.
User ’s Manual 28 4.4 Deleting Record ed V ideo Users can delete the Normal and Event recorded video in <Purge Da t a> Menu. T he administrator password is required to access the function. S elect <Record S etup> f rom Main Menu, and then select <Purge Data> and press ENTER, the <Purge Data> Menu displays.

User ’s Manual 30 From / T o Time The ite ms ar e used to set the time which data export begins and ends. Move the cursor using Di rection ke y s, and press ENTER to select the date / time items; adjust the selected date and time v alue by UP / DOWN keys.
User ’s Manual 31 Make sure that you have an external s torag e d ev ice, such as a USB Hard Drive or USB ThumbDrive, av ailable and conn ected to t he appropriate port f or export. For more information on verif y ing digital sig nat ure, see Appendix D: V erifying Digital Signature.
User ’s Manual 32 4.6.2 Dome Prot ocol Setup The <Dome Protocol> item lists th e available dome p rotocols for communicating with dome c ameras connected to the V ersatile MPEG-4 DVR . From the Main Menu, sele c t <Camera Setup> and press ENTER.
User ’s Manual 33 4.6.3 RS485 Setup V ersa til e MPEG-4 DVR co n trol the domes via RS -48 5 commun ic ation protocol. The RS-485 parameters in V ersatile MPEG-4 DVR mu st be set to the same parameters as the protocol for RS-422 setup of the dome. Users are allowed to change the RS-485 settings of the V ersatile MPEG-4 DVR .
User ’s Manual 34 Set / Go Preset This key is used t o enter the Dome Preset Me nu to set up certain position as a preset and go to the prede t ermined preset positions for viewing. T oggle Hint Screen This f unction is used to avoid viewing the dome parameter information while controlling dome camera.
User ’s Manual 35 4.6.5 Setting Prese t Point s The V ersatile MPEG-4 DVR allows use r to set preset positions; the amount of preset points depends on the dome manufacturer . Follow the steps to set preset points. • Press a Channel key to view the corresponding cam era in full screen.
