Preparation 19 VQT0Q 40 Attachin g the Lens Hood In bright sunlight or backlight, the lens hood will minimise lens flare and ghosting. The lens hood cuts out e x cess light and improves the pict ure quality . • Chec k that the camera is turned off and that the lens is retracted.
Prepara tion 20 VQT0Q40 ∫ T emporaril y storing the lens hood 1 1 Remove the lens hood, turn it aro und then ali gn marker D on the lens hoo d to marker E on the adaptor . 2 Push the lens hood onto the adaptor until it clicks. 3 Rotate the lens hood counter -cloc kwise until it clic ks.
Preparation 21 VQT0Q 40 Setting Date/ Time (Cl oc k Set) ∫ Initial setting The clock is not set when t he camera is shipped. When you turn the camera on, the follo wing screen appears. • When pressing the [MENU] b utton, the screen shown in step 1 appears.

Recording Menu Settings 69 VQT0Q 40 Recording Menu Se ttings Using the [REC] mode menu Setting the hue, picture quality adjustm ent, etc. allows you to creat e wide variations on taking pictures.
Recording Me nu Setting s 70 VQT0Q40 This function allows you to reproduc e a white colour closer to the tone in real life on the pictures reco rded under sunlight, halogen lighting, etc. i n which the white colour may appear reddish or bluish. • When setting the white balance to t he mode except [A UTO], you can finely adjust the white balance .

Recording Me nu Setting s 72 VQT0Q40 ISO sensitivity represents the sensitivity to light in values. If you set the ISO sensitivity higher , the camera becomes more suitable for recording in dark places. • When setting to [A UTO], the ISO sensitivity is automat ically adjusted from [ISO80] to [ISO200] according to the brightness.
Recording Menu Settings 73 VQT0Q 40 When you select a larger pi cture size, y ou can pr int pictures clearly . When you select a smaller picture size (640 k 480 pixels), you can record more pictures. In addition, it is conv enient to attach the picture to an e-mail or post it on a website because the file siz e is sma ll.
Recording Me nu Setting s 74 VQT0Q40 Y ou can take a pic ture with audio . • When you set [A UDIO REC.] t o [ON], [ ] appears on the screen. • When you start recording by f ocusing on the subject and pressing the shutter button, the audio recording will be automatically stopped in about 5 seconds.
Recording Menu Settings 75 VQT0Q 40 ∫ High speed AF (H) mode When you select 3-area-focusing (high speed) or 1-area-focu sing (high speed), the auto f oc us is activ ated in high speed and you can focus on t he subject more quickly .
Recording Me nu Setting s 76 VQT0Q40 This mode allows you to compose a picture more easily by alw ays f ocusing on the subject. When the AF mode is set to 1-area-focusing, 1-area-f oc using (high speed) or spot -f ocusi ng, the time required for f ocus ing when pressing t he shutter button halfwa y will be reduced.
Recording Menu Settings 77 VQT0Q 40 When you press the shutter button halfwa y , [ ] indication disappears and then the ape rture v alue and the shutter speed are displa yed. When you press the shutter button halfwa y without pressing the [ FOCUS] button, the [ ] indicat ion turns red.
Recording Me nu Setting s 78 VQT0Q40 • Be sure of the f ollowing points when the AF assist lamp is in use. – Do not look in t o the AF assist lamp closely . – Detach the lens hood. – Do not cov er the AF assist lamp with your fingers. – The battery may be consumed faster than usual.
Recording Menu Settings 79 VQT0Q 40 Y ou can us e 4 types of colour effect s depending on the atmosphere of the pict ure . Use this function according to the recording situation and the atmosphere of the picture. • When you take pictures in dark places, noise may become visible.

Playback (ad vanced) 84 VQT0Q40 This mode allows y ou to display pictures recorded by holding the camera ver tically or pictures rotated in [R O T A TE] function in the rotated direction. 1 Select [ON] to set it. • When you select [OFF], the pictures are display ed without being rotated.
Playback (advan ced) 85 VQT0Q 40 2 Select the dire ction to r otate the picture. • When you pla y back pictures on a PC , you cannot play back pictures keeping the rotated direction without an O S or softw are compatib le with Exif .
Playback (ad vanced) 86 VQT0Q40 ∫ Single s etting Select the picture and set the number of prints . • The number of pr ints can be set from 0 to 999. • The number of prints icon [ ] appears. • When the number of prints is set to “0”, DPOF pr int setting is cancelled.
Playback (advan ced) 87 VQT0Q 40 • DPOF print setting is a con v enient function when you print pictures with printers suppor ting PictBr idge. (P98) • DPOF is an ab breviation of Digital Print Order F orm at. This f ea ture allows you to write print inf ormation into the media and to use such inf ormation on the DPOF-compliant sys tem.
Playback (ad vanced) 88 VQT0Q40 ∫ Multi settin g/T o cancel all settings P erform the same ope rati on as in “Setting the Picture to be Printed and the Number of Prints [DP OF PRINT]” . (P85 – 87) • If you w ant to delete protected pictures, cancel the protect setting first.
Playback (advan ced) 89 VQT0Q 40 ∫ SD Slide Sho w If you inser t a card inc luding the SD Slide Show edited with the [SD View er for DSC] which is in the su pplied CD-ROM, and then tur n the ca mera on in playback mode, the confir mation screen appears.
