For each step, be sure to refer to the pages indicated in brack ets. 1 Insert the batteries. (P1 5) • When y ou do not use the card (optional), you can record or pla y bac k pictur es on the b uilt-in memo ry (P16).
Preparation 12 VQT0V1 0 About the Batteries ∫ Usable batteries • One of the follo wing messages appears when you insert batteries for the first time, change the batteries when they be come exhausted etc.

Preparation 14 VQT0V1 0 will become normal after a fe w charges and discharges. • We recommend ch arging the batteries after they are fully discharged. If you charge the batteries before they are fully discharged, it can reduc e batter y performance.

Basic 24 VQT0V1 0 ∫ Tips f or taking good pictur es • Hold the cam era gently with both hands, keep y our arms st ill at y our side and stand with your feet slightly apar t. • Make sure the camera does not shak e when you press the s hutter button.
Basic 25 VQT0V 10 We recommend taking pictures using AF/ AE lock. • Ev en when the focus indication appears and the subject is focused, it is canceled if you release the shutter b utton. Basic 32 VQT0V1 0 Pla ying Bac k Pictures The picture data on the b u ilt-in memory appears when a card is not inse rted. T he picture data on the card appears when a card is inser ted.

Advanced 46 VQT0V1 0 • When burst mode is set, the auto review function is activated regardless of the auto revie w setting. (The pict ure is not enlarged.) Y ou cannot set the auto re view function in the [SETUP] menu. • When the flash is activ ated or [ST ARRY SKY] in scene m ode is selected, you can take only 1 picture.
Advanced 47 VQT0V 10 T aking Close-up Pictures This mode allows you to take close-up pictures of a subject, e.g. when taking pictures of flowers. Y ou can take pictures of a subject as close as 5 cm (0.16 f eet) from the lens by rotating t he zoom le ver upmost to Wide (1 k ).
Advanced 48 VQT0V1 0 Scene Mode When you select a scene mode to match the subject and recording situation, t he camera sets the optimal e xposure and hue to obtain the desired pict ure. T wo frequently used scenes can be set to the mode dials [ ] and [ ] .
Advanced 49 VQT0V 10 • Press 2 and then press 3 / 4 in the [SCENE MODE] menu to select either the [REC] menu icon [ ] (P59) or the [SETUP] menu icon [ ] (P19) and set the desired items. • The f ollowing cannot be set in scene mode because t he camera automatically adjusts them to the op timal setting.

Advanced 54 VQT0V1 0 • If the camera is set to [WITHOUT A GE], the age is not recorded e v en if the t ime and bir thday are set. This means the age cannot be display ed ev en i f the camera is set to [WIT H AGE] afte r tak ing th e pictures. • Use [RESET] in the [SETUP] men u to reset the bir thday setting.
