For each operation, be s ure to refer to the correspond ing pages. 1 Insert the batteries. Prepara tion 12 VQT0P8 3 About the Ba tteries ∫ Usable batteries ¢ The o xyride batter y is a ne w type of non-rechargeable battery dev e loped by P anasonic. Oxyride batteri es hav e higher power and more stability to handle the higher load on the batteries, compared to conv entional alkaline batt eries.
Preparation 13 VQT0P83 ∫ Unusable batteries • Operations b y using the batter ies listed abov e are not guaranteed. If the ba tteries listed abov e are used, leakages can result and the f ollowing malfunctions can occur ; – Remaining batter y pow er may not be displa yed accurately .
Prepara tion 14 VQT0P8 3 • As the ambient temperature is low (10 o C or less), the performance of the b atteries will be deter iorated and the av ailab le recording/playbac k time becomes extremely short . This is normal. Alkaline batteries s ignificantly show such tendencies.
Preparation 15 VQT0P83 • The battery life diff ers depending on the condition stored or used or environment. When you do not use batteries for a long per iod of time • When the batteries are left i ns er ted in the camera, the batteries are discharged since a weak electric current is passed ev en if t he camera is tur ned off.
Prepara tion 16 VQT0P8 3 Recordable number in low temperatures (In normal picture mode) (T empe rature: 0°C/Other recording conditions comply with CIP A st andard) • Please note that the perf or mance of the oxyride batteries and the alkaline batteries significantly decreases in low temperature conditions.

Recording pictu res (advanced) 59 VQT0P83 This mode allows you to take pictures against a night landscape. The subject can be recorded with brightness in real lif e by using the flash and slowing down the shutter speed. ∫ T echnique for Night portrait mode • Use the flash.
Recording pictures (ad vanced) 60 VQT0P8 3 This mode allows y ou to take a picture according to the atmosphere of the situation (e.g. a wedding reception, a party in a room, etc.). Both the people and the bac kground can be recorded with brightness in real lif e by using the flash and slo wing down the shutter speed.

Recording Me nu Setting s 62 VQT0P8 3 This function allows you to reproduc e a white colour closer to the tone in real life on the pictures reco rded under sunlight, halogen lighting, etc.
Recording Menu Settings 63 VQT0P83 ∫ Setting the White Balance manual ly (Whit e set ) Use this mode when you w ant to set the white balance manually .
Recording Me nu Setting s 64 VQT0P8 3 ISO sensitivity represents the sensitivity to light in values. If you set the ISO sensitivity higher , the camera becomes more suitable for recording in dark places. • When setting to [A UTO], the ISO sensitivity is autom atically adjusted in the range described below according to the brigh tness.
Recording Menu Settings 65 VQT0P83 Y ou can se lect 2 types of quality (compression rate) according to the us age of the picture. • Pictures may appear like a mosaic depending on the subjec t or the recording condition. • The number of recordable pictures depends on the subject.
Recording Me nu Setting s 66 VQT0P8 3 • When setting to 3-area-f ocusing, pictures may become still while being f ocused on, howe ver , this is not a malfunction. • When using the digital z oom or when y ou take pict ures in dark places, the AF area is displa yed on the centre of t he screen with a size wider than usual.
Recording Menu Settings 67 VQT0P83 The shutter speed can be automatically adjusted. Howe ver , if you want brighter pictures, you can manually select a slower shutter speed. This is especially effectiv e if you want to take pictures where both the night landscape and the subject are bright, using [NIGHT PORTRAIT] in scene mode (P56).
Recording Me nu Setting s 68 VQT0P8 3 Y ou can use 4 types of colour eff ect s depending on the atmosphere of the picture. Use this function according to the rec ording situation and the atmosphere of the picture. • When you t ake pictures in dark places, noise may become visible.

Playback (advan ced) 71 VQT0P83 This mode allows you to displa y pictures recorded by holding the camer a vertically or pictures rotated in [RO T A T E] function in the rotated direction. 1 Select [ON] to set it. • When you select [OFF], the pictures are display ed w ithout being rotated.
Playback (ad vanced) 72 VQT0P8 3 2 Select the direction to rot ate the picture. • When you pla y back pictures on a PC, you cannot play back pi ctures keeping the rotated direction without an OS or software compatible with Exif .
Playback (advan ced) 73 VQT0P83 ∫ Singl e set ting Select the pictur e and set the number of prints. • The number of prints can be set from 0 to 999. • The number of prints icon [ ] appears. • When the number of prints is set to “0”, DPOF print setting is cancelled.
Playback (ad vanced) 74 VQT0P8 3 • DPOF pr int setting is a conv enient function when you print pictures with printers suppor ting PictBridge. (P 87) • DPOF is an abbreviati on of Digital Pr int Order Format. T his feature allo ws you to write print information into the media and to use s uch information on the DPOF-com pliant system.

Playback (ad vanced) 80 VQT0P8 3 Use this function when y ou want t o copy recorded picture dat a from the built-in memor y to the c ard and vice versa. 1 Select the direction to cop y the picture data. •: All pictures are copied from the built-in memor y to the card at one time .
Playback (advan ced) 81 VQT0P83 • If y ou copy the data from the b uilt-in memor y to the card, we recomm end using a card which h as more free space than the built-in memor y (about 14 MB ). • If a picture having the same name as the name of picture to be copied exists in the cop y destination, the picture will not be copied.
Playback (ad vanced) 82 VQT0P8 3 • Usually , it is not necessar y to format the built-in memory and the card. Format them when the message [BUIL T -I N MEMOR Y ERROR] or [MEMOR Y CARD ERROR] appears. • If the built-in memor y or the card has been formatted by a PC or ot her equipment, format it on the cam era again.
