- 1 1 - 2 Insert the battery , t aking care to match up the terminal markings. A terminal markings ≥ Insert the battery so that the terminal markings face up. It is possible to mistakenly insert the battery upside down, so be sure to check the orientation carefully .
- 12 - Charging the battery The unit is in th e stand by condition when the AC adap tor is conn ected. The primary ci rcuit is always “live” as long as the AC adapt or is connec ted to an e lectr ical outlet . Important: ≥ The AC adap tor and USB cabl e are for use with this unit only .
- 13 - 1 Connect t he USB cabl e to the AC adaptor . ≥ Check that the plug portion of the AC adaptor is not misaligned. 2 Connect t he AC adap tor into the AC outlet. 3 Connect t he USB cabl e to the u nit. ≥ Connecting the USB cable in the wrong direction may cause damage to the USB/A V connector of the unit.

- 18 - Inserting/removing an SD c ard Caution: Check that the status indicator has gone o ff. 1 Open the b attery/car d cover . 2 Insert (remove ) the SD card into (from) the card slot. ≥ Face the labe l side B in the dire ction shown in the illustrat ion and press it straight in as far as it will go.
- 19 - 3 Close the ba ttery/card cove r . ≥ Securely close it until it clicks. ≥ Do not touc h the terminals on the back of the SD card. ≥ Do not shock , bend, or drop t he SD card. ≥ Electri cal noise, st atic electricit y or the failu re of this unit or the SD card may dama ge or erase the dat a stored on the SD card.
- 20 - Open the LCD monitor and p ress the pow er button to turn on the un it. The LCD monitor turns on. About St andby Mode When the LCD moni tor is close d while the unit is on, the un it enter s S tand by Mode which cons umes very littl e power . S t andby Mode all ows pictures to be recorded as soon as the LCD monitor is opened .
- 21 - ≥ If the unit has not been operat ed for app roximately 5 mi nutes (s ettings at the time of purchas e) when the power is turned on, th e ECONOMY function will ac tivate and switch t o S tandb y Mode to limit power consumptio n in situ ations such as the user forg etting to t urn the unit off .

- 26 - ∫ Basic motion picture recordin g ≥ The unit shou ld normally be held steady when rec ording. ≥ If you move the unit when recordin g, do so slowly , mainta ining a const ant sp eed.
- 27 - ≥ Before turning on the unit, remove the lens cap. ≥ Motion pictures are recorded to the SD card if one is inserted. If no SD card is i nserted, the mot ion pictures are recorded to the built- in memory . 1 Open the L CD monitor . 2 Press the recording st art/stop butto n to st art recording.
- 28 - ∫ About the scre en indic ations in the motion picture recording * When [CREA TIVE CONTROL] ( l 64 ) is set to (Miniature Ef fect (MINI)) or (T ime Lapse Rec (INTV)), the maximum rec ordable time for one scene (012:00:0 0) is display ed.
- 29 - ≥ Recording may become out of fo cus if the u nit is subjec ted to shock while the power is turned on. I f this happe ns, hold th e power button until th e LCD monito r turns o ff to t urn th e power to the unit of f, and turn the power on aga in.
- 30 - ≥ Before turning on the unit, remove the lens cap. ≥ S till pictur es are recorded to S D card if one is inserted. If no SD card is inserte d, the still pictu res are recorded to the buil t-in memory . 1 Open the L CD monitor . 2 (For Auto Focus only) Press the button halfw ay .

- 32 - ∫ About the focusing ar ea ≥ When [FOCUS MO DE] ( l 75) is set to (9-P T AUTO FOCUS), (focusin g area A ) is dis played at the po sition where focus i s achie ved. The unit au tomati cally determine s the positio n where focus is achieved fr om nine focus poin ts withi n the recordin g area.

Dependi ng on the brig htness of the subjec t etc., the apert ure and shut ter speed are au tomati cally adjust ed for an optimu m brightness.

Therefore, if foc us, brightnes s or a light sourc e changes drastically duri ng recording , the panorama still picture as a whole may not be recorde d with opti mal focu s or a colour to ne.
- 62 - ≥ Set to R ecord ing Mod e. ( l 22) Y ou can switch bet ween motion pi cture record ing and audio rec ording, and switch th e image quality of t he motion pict ure to record. *1 is a format suit able for playba ck on a high-defi nition TV . *2 is a format suit able for playba ck on a PC.

When the unit is set to Portra it Mode in Intelligent Auto Mode, the unit will fo cus on the priorit ised fac e frame and adjus t the brightnes s accordingly .

- 87 - Cutting out a section of a p anorama still picture Y ou can cut out and s ave a section of a panorama still pic ture you hav e recorded . 1 Display the p anor ama still picture. 2 Press the SET button to st art scroll play back of the pa norama s till picture.
