Introduction 6 Import ant safety instructions When using the product, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or personal injury . 1. Read all instructions carefully . 2. Follow all warnings and instru ctions marked on the product.
Introduction 7 CAUTION: Installation L Never install telephone wiring during a lightning sto rm. L Never install telephone jacks in wet locations unless the ja ck is specifically designed for wet locations. L Never touch uninsulated telepho ne wires or terminals unless the telephone line has been disconnected a t the network interface.
Introduction 8 L When a failure occurs which results in the internal parts becoming accessible, disconnect the power suppl y cord immediately and return the product to an authorised service centre.
Introduction 9 L The product should b e kept away from heat sources such as heaters, kitchen stoves, etc. It should not be placed in rooms where the temperature is less than 5 °C or greater than 40 °C.
Preparation 10 Setting up the base unit Overview 1 Connect the AC adaptor. 2 Connect the telephone line cord. Refer to one of the following methods depe nding on your situation.
Preparation 11 Connecting the telephone line cord Connect the telephone line cord until it clicks into the telephon e socket. T o connect to 2 single-line telephone sockets T o connect to a single-line telephone socket Note: L Make sure you connect the tel ephone line cord into LINE1 telephone jack.
Preparation 12 If you subscribe to an ADSL service Please attach a noise filte r (contact your AD SL provide r) to the tele phone line between th e base unit and the telephone line socket in the event of the following: – Noise is heard during conversations.
Preparation 13 Setting up the handset Battery inst allation/replacement 1 Press the notch of the handset cover firmly, and slide it in th e direction of the arrow. L If necessary , remove the old battery . 2 Insert the battery ( A ), and press it down until it snaps into position ( B ).

Preparation 19 Setting the unit before use Important: L T o programme features by scrolling through the display menus, see page 33. Date and time Set the correct date and time. When you play back a message from the answering system (page 40), the u nit announces the day and time it was recorded .
Making/Answering Calls 20 Making calls While one line is in use, you can make or answer a call using the other line. Using the handset 1 Lift the handset and dial the phone number. L T o correct a digit, press { CLEAR } . 2 Press {C} . L An available line is automatically selected and the l ine number is displayed.

Making/Answering Calls 22 Answering calls Using the handset 1 Lift the handset and press {C} or {s} . L The called line is automatically selected. L Y ou can also answer the call by pressing any button except na vigator key or { OFF } . (Any key t alk feature) 2 When you finish talking, press { OFF } .
Making/Answering Calls 23 Changing th e ringer t one Y ou can change the base unit ringer tone heard when an outside call is received. There are 4 tones and 4 melodies. 1 Press { LINE SELECT } repeatedly to select the desired line when in standby mode.
Making/Answering Calls 24 MUTE While mute is turned on, you can hear the other party , but the o ther party cannot hear you. T o mute your voice, press { MUTE } . L T o return to the conversation, press { MUTE } or {C} . Note: L{ MUTE } is a soft key visible on the handset display during a call.
Making/Answering Calls 25 Call share This feature allows the handset and base unit to join an existi ng outside call. T o join the conversation, press { LINE1 } or { LINE2 } to select the line that is being used by another extension for an outside call.

Phonebook 27 Finding and calling a handset phonebook item Phonebook items can be searched for alphabetically by scro lling through the phonebook items or by initial. Once you have found the desired item, press {C} to dial the number . L Y ou can also make a cal l by pressing { CALL } , then pressing { LINE1 } or { LINE2 } .
Phonebook 28 Chain dial This feat ure allows you to dial phone numbers in the handset phonebook whil e you are on a call. This feature ca n be used, for example, to dial a calling card access number or bank account PIN that you have stored in the handset phoneboo k, without having to dial manually .
Base Unit Speed Dialer 29 Base unit speed dialler Y ou can assign one ph one number to each of the 10 dial keys ( { 0 } – { 9 } ) on the base unit. Adding phone numbers to the speed dialer Important: L Before adding pho ne numbers, make sure the base unit is not being used.
Caller ID Service 30 Using Caller ID service This unit is Caller ID compatible. T o use Caller ID features (such as displaying caller phone numbers), you must subscribe to Caller ID service. Consult your service provider/telephone company for details.

Programming 33 Programmable settings Y ou can customise the unit by progra mming th e fol lowing features using the handset. T o access the features, there are 2 methods: – scrolling through the display menus (page 33) – using the direct commands (page 35) L The direct command metho d is mainly used in the se operating instructions.

Answering System 38 Answering system Important: L Only 1 person can access the answerin g system at a time. L When callers leave messa ges, the unit records the day and time of each message. Make sure the d ate and t ime have been correctly set (page 19).
Answering System 39 Recording your greeting message Y ou can record your own greeting message (max. 2 minutes) that is played when the answering system answers a call. The greeting messages can be recorded: – for each line. – for both lines using a common greeting.
Answering System 40 Listening to messages using the base unit The base unit plays messages, including memo messages, on the line selected for the answering system.
Answering System 41 L The messages on the selected line(s) in step 1 are eras ed. Listening to messages using the handset When new messages have been recorded: –“ New message ” is displayed. – the message indicator o n the handset slowly flashes in amber if the message alert featur e is turned on (p age 47).

Answering System 43 V o ice memo Recording a voice memo Y ou ca n use the base unit to leave a voice memo (voice message) for yourself or someone else (max. 3 minutes). V oi ce memos can be played back later with the same operation used to play back answering system messages.
Answering System 44 V oice guidance During remote operatio n, the unit’s voice guidance prompts you to press { 1 } to perform a specific operation, or press { 2 } to listen to more available ope rations.
Answering System 45 T urning on the answe ring system remotely If the answering system is off, you can turn it on remotely by calling the selected line in “T urning the answering system on” on page 38. 1 Dial your phone n umber. 2 Let the phone ring 15 times.
Answering System 46 to leave your answering machine off on your unit. This will allow the V oice Mail to receive any messages. This unit does not have a visu al indicator to indicate if there are new messages in your V oice Mail service.

Multi-unit Operation 49 T ransferring calls Outside calls can be transferred between the handset and base un it, and between 2 handsets. 1 During an outsi de call, press { INTERCOM } to put the call on hold. 2 To page the base unit, press { 0 } . To page another handset, enter its extension number ( { 1 } – { 8 } ).
Multi-unit Operation 50 T ransferring a call to the answering system When you answer a call and the caller wants to talk to someone who is not available, you can transfer the call er to the answering system, where the caller can leave a messa ge. T ell the outside caller you will transfer him or her to the answering system.
Multi-unit Operation 51 3 When the 2nd call is connected, press { CONF } to make a conference call. L T o hang up o nly one line, press { LINE1 } or { LINE2 } fo r the party with which you want to continue talking. L T o put both lines on hold, press { HOLD } .
Multi-unit Operation 52 Room monitor This feature allows you to monitor the room where a unit is located. The monitored unit does no t ring, allowing you to easily monitor a baby’s room, for example, from different areas of the house. Note: L Y ou can pla ce the handset on the base unit or charger while monitoring using the speakerphone.
Multi-unit Operation 53 Registering a handset The included handset and base unit are preregistered. If for some reason the handset is not regist ered to the base unit, register the handset. Important: L If you have already deregistered the handset, perform steps 2 and 3 only .
Useful Information 54 W all mounting 1 Tuck the telephone line cord in side the wall-mounting adapto r ( A ). Connect the AC adaptor and telephone line cord to the base unit ( B ). 2 Insert the hooks on the wal l-mounting adaptor into the holes ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) on the base unit.
Useful Information 55 3 Adjust the adaptor to hold the base unit, then push it in the direction of the arrow until it clicks into place. 4 Drive the screws (not included) into the wa ll u sing the wall-mount template (see below) as a guide. Mount the unit and sli de it down into position.
