7 Rear Label Description Reset Press this butt on for more than five seconds t o restore the system to its factory default settings. Po wer Press this butt on to power on/off the wireless rout er . Insert the AC adapter into this port to connect your router to a power source .
8 Item Description 1 Mounting hooks Use the mounting hooks to mount y our router on concrete or wooden surfaces using two round head screws. 2 Air vents These vents pr ovide ventilation to y our router . Bottom panel Mounting the wireless router t o a wall is not recommended as it reduces wireless performance.
9 2 Setting up your wir eless network P ositioning y our router T o get the best wireless network per formance from your wir eless router , f ollow the recommenda tions below : • Place the wireless r outer at the center of y our network for maximum wireless co verage.
10 Wha t you need T o set up your network, you need one or two computers that meet the following sy stem requirements: • Ethernet RJ-45 (LAN) por t (10Base-T/100Base-T X) • IEEE 802.
11 2. Using the bundled network cable , connect your computer to your wireless r outer ’ s LAN por t. T o set up a network using a wired connection: 1.
12 Wireless c onnection T o set up your wireless netw ork: 1. Inser t your wireless rout er ’ s AC adapter to the DC-In port and plug it to a pow er outlet. 2 Using the bundled network cable , connect your modem to y our wireless router’ s W AN por t.
13 Before y ou proceed A. Disable any c onfigured pro xy ser vers . Windo ws ® 7 1. Click Start > Internet Explorer . 2. Click T ools > Internet options > C onnec tions tab > LAN settings.
14 3. F rom the Local Ar ea Network (LAN) Settings window , uncheck Use a pro xy ser ver for y our LAN . 4. Click OK then Apply . MA C OSX 1. F rom your Apple Safari browser , click Safari > Prefer ences > Adv anced . On the Pro xies item, click Change Settings .
15 B . C onfigure T CP/IP settings t o automatically obtain an IP address. Windo ws ® 7 1. Click Start > Contr ol Panel > Network and Int ernet > Network and Sharing Cen ter > Change adapter settings . 2. On the Network Connections window , click on Local Area C onnec tion .

19 3 Networ k configur ation using the web GUI Logging in to the w eb GUI Y our ASUS Wireless Rout er uses a web-based user interface that allows you t o configure the router using an y web bro wser such as Internet Explorer , Mo zilla F irefo x, Apple Safari, or Goo gle Chrome .
20 Setting up the Internet connection When setting up the Internet connection for the first time , press the Reset button on your wireless r outer to reset it to its factory default settings. 3. The wireless rout er GUI provides access t o various configuration settings .
21 Quick Internet Setup (QIS) with auto-detection The Quick Internet Setup (QIS) fea ture guides you in quickly setting up your Internet c onnec tion. T o use QIS with auto-detection: 1. Launch a web bro wser such as Internet Explorer , Mozilla F irefo x, Apple Safari, or Google Chrome.
22 3. Key in a new administrator passw ord to prev ent unauthorized access to the rout er . Click Next. 4. Select Wir eless router mode , Repeater mode, or Access P oint (AP) mode. Click Next. T o set up a wireless network with Internet access, use Wireless router mode .
23 Obtain the necessary information about your Internet connection type and additional login information from your Internet Ser vice Pr ovider . • Auto-det ection of your ISP connection t ype takes place when you configure the wir eless router for the first time or when your wireless rout er is reset to its default settings.
24 6. In the Wireless setting screen, key in a network name (SSID) and assign a security key for your wireless connection. Click Apply . 7. A summar y of your network settings will be display ed.

26 Setting up wireless security T o protect your wireless network from unauthorized acc ess, you need to configure y our router’ s secur ity settings. T o set up the wireless security settings: 1. Key in 192.168.1.1 on your w eb browser . 2. On the login screen, k ey in the default user name ( admin ) and password ( admin ), then click OK .
27 4. On the Wireless name (SSID) field , key in a unique name for your wireless netw ork. 5. F rom the Authen tication Method dropdown list, selec t the encr yption method for your wir eless network. 6. Key in your security passkey . 7. Click Apply .
28 Crea ting your Guest Netw ork Setting up a Guest Network provides wireless Int ernet connectivity for temporary visitors while restric ting access to y our private netw ork. T o create your guest netw ork: 1. Click Guest Network on the na vigation panel.
29 4. Assign a wireless name f or your temporary network on the Network Name (SSID) field . 5. Select an Authentication Method . 6. Select a WEP Encr yption method. 7. Specify the Acc ess time or click Limitless . 8. Select D isable or Enable on the Acc ess Intranet item.
30 Y our bandwidth information is av ailable from your ISP . Using the T raffic Manager Managing QoS (Quality of S ervice) Bandwidth The Quality of Ser vice featur e allows you t o set the bandwidth priority and manage net work traffic. T o set up QoS: 1.

32 Monitoring T raffic Click the T raffic Monitor tab to view real-time or historical bandwidth information of y our Internet, Wir ed, and Wireless connections.
33 C onfiguring Adv anc ed settings Setting up the DHCP Ser ver Y our wireless router uses DHCP to assign IP addresses automatically on your netw ork. Y ou can specify the IP address range and lease time for the clien ts on your network. T o configure the DHCP server: 1.
34 • ASUS recommeds that y ou use an IP address format of 192.168.1.xxx (where xxx can be any number between 2 and 254) when specifying an IP address range . • An IP P ool Star ting Address should not be grea ter than the IP P ool Ending Address. 6.
35 T o upgrade the firmware: 1. Click Administr ation from the na vigation panel. 2. Click the F irmware Upgrade tab . 3. In the New F irmware F ile item, click Browse . Navigate t o the downloaded firmware file . 4. Click Upload . Upgrading the firmw are Download the latest firmware fr om the ASUS website at http://support.
36 Restoring/Saving/U ploading settings T o restore/sa ve/upload wireless r outer settings: 1. Click Administr ation on the naviga tion panel. 2. Click the Restore/Sa ve/Upload Setting tab . 3. Select a task from the configuration options: • T o restore to default factory settings, click Restore , and click OK once prompted .
37 4 U sing the utilities Devic e Disco very Device Discov er y is an ASUS WLAN utility that detects any ASUS wireless routers a vailable on the wir eless network and allows you to configure the devic e. ASUS wireless router utilities can be do wnloaded from http://support.
38 When you set the rout er to Access P oint mode , you need to use Device Discov er y to get the router’ s IP addr ess. T o launch the Device Disco very utility: • Click Star t > All Programs > ASUS Utility > R T-N10P Wireless Router > Devic e Discov ery .
39 F irmware Rest oration F irmware Restoration is used on an ASUS W ireless Router after a failed firmware upgrade . This utility uploads a firmware file to the wireless router . The process takes about three to f our minutes. T olaunchrescuemodeandusetheFirmwareRestoration utility: 1.
40 The F irmware Restoration utility is not used to upgrade the firmware of a working ASUS Wireless Router . Nor mal firmware upgrades must be done through the web GUI. Refer to Upgrading the firmwar e for more details. 5. Click Brow se to navigat e to the firmware file , then click Upload .

45 ASUS DDNS Ser vice RT-N10P Series routers suppor t the ASUS DDNS ser vice. If you hav e registered f or the ASUS DDNS ser vice but need to exchange devices at the service center , inform the service center that you want to keep the original domain name and retain the DDNS ser vice.
