Notebook PC User Manual 15 Light Sensor The light sensor measures the amount of ambient light and changes the illumination of the L CD display and keyboard. Camera The built-in camera allows picture taking or video recording . Can be used with video c onferencing and other interactive applications .
16 Notebook PC User Manual P ower Button The power button allows po wering ON and OFF the Notebook PC and reco vering from suspend mode. Use the button once to turn ON and once t o turn OFF the Notebook PC. The power button only w orks when the display panel is opened.
Notebook PC User Manual 17 Bottom Side The bottom side may v ar y in appearance depending on model. The battery pack size varies depending on model. The bottom of the Notebook PC can get v er y hot. Be careful when handling the Notebook PC while it is in operation or recently been in operation.
18 Notebook PC User Manual Right Side 1 2 Po wer Indicator The power indicator lights when the Not ebook PC is turned ON and blinks slowly when the Notebook PC is in the Suspend-to-RAM (Sleep) mode. This indicator is OFF when the Notebook PC is turned OFF or in the Suspend-to-Disk (Hibernation) mode.

22 Notebook PC User Manual Power System Using A C Po wer The Notebook PC pow er is comprised of two par ts, the power adapter and the battery power system. The power adapt er conv er ts AC pow er from a wall outlet to the DC pow er required by the Notebook PC.
Notebook PC User Manual 23 Damage may occur if you use a diff erent adapter to pow er the Notebook PC or use the Notebook PC’ s adapter to power other electrical devices. If there is smoke, burning scent , or extreme heat coming from the A C-DC adapter , seek ser vicing.
24 Notebook PC User Manual Using Ba tter y P ower The battery consists of a set of battery cells housed together . A fully charged will pro vide several hours of battery life , which can be fur ther extended by using power managemen t features through the BIOS setup .

30 Notebook PC User Manual Emergency Shutdown In case your operating syst em cannot properly turn OFF or restar t, there is an additional way t o shutdown your Notebook PC: • Hold the power button ov er 4 seconds. DO NO T use emergency shutdown while data is being written; doing so can result in loss or destruction of your data.

38 Notebook PC User Manual Touchpad The touchpad is an int eractive device that interprets the gestures and position of your fingers to simulat e the func tions of a regular mouse.
Notebook PC User Manual 39 Using the t ouchpad The touchpad allows y ou to use one-finger and multi-finger gestures to mov e the pointer so you can select and click items, rotate and zoom images, scroll lists, as well as swipe and switch between windows.

T ouchpad usage illustra tions T apping - T apping on the touchpad allows you to select items onscreen and open files. Clicking - Clicking on the touchpad simulates the functions of the left mouse button and right mouse button.
Notebook PC User Manual 41 Rotating - Rotating images clockwise or counterclockwise is done on the touchpad by using two fingers . T o rotate an image , place two fingers on the t ouchpad then turn one finger clockwise or counterclockwise while the other stays still.
42 Notebook PC User Manual The touchpad responds to mo vement not to f orce. There is no need to tap the surface too hard. T apping too hard does not increase the responsiveness of the t ouchpad. The touchpad responds best to light pressur e. Caring f or the touchpad The touchpad is pressur e sensitive.

Connections Network C onnec tion Connect a network cable, with RJ-45 connectors on each end, to the modem/network por t on the Notebook PC and the other end to a hub or switch.
Notebook PC User Manual 49 T wisted-Pair C able The cable used to connect the Ethernet card to a host (gener ally a Hub or Switch) is called a straigh t-through T wisted Pair Ethernet ( TPE). The end connectors are called RJ-45 connectors, which are not compatible with RJ-11 telephone connectors .

Swit ch ON the Wireless fu nc ti on if necessary for your model (see switches in Chapter 3). 2. P ress [FN+F2] repeatedly until wireless LAN icon and bluetooth icon are sho wn.

If you r connected device o verheat s, rem ove it immediat ely . F or some ASUS Notebook PCs, you can also use the USB Charger+ while on sleep , hibernate or shutdown mode .

Notebook PC User Manual 59 Instant On Instant On is a default-enabled featur e in your ASUS Notebook PC that allows y ou to save batt er y power while your Not ebook PC is on deep sleep mode (Deep S3). It also shows how long your Notebook PC can run on standby using these two batt er y saving modes: P er formance mode and Battery saving mode .
60 Notebook PC User Manual Battery saving mode The battery saving mode enables longer standby times , allowing the battery to last for up to thirt y (30) days or more . When you enable this function, the system can return to its last working state in as fast as seven seconds , four hours after your Notebook PC has entered int o deep sleep mode.
