7 The Net w ork Disk Recorder ( W J-ND400) is for recording images and aud io from net w ork surveillance camera s to a hard disk (hereafter HDD). It is possi b le to connect up to 64 cameras over a net w ork. Also, it is possi b le to access and operate the recorder via a net w ork from the w e b b ro w ser on a computer (hereafter PC).
8 It is recommended to operate this unit using a PC that meets the follo w ing system re q uirements. *M i c r o s o f t ® Internet Explorer ® 6.0 SP2 is re q uired w hen using Microsoft ® W indo w s ® XP Professional SP2 or Microsoft ® W indo w s ® XP Home Edition SP2.

16 Description o f Functions Outline of Functions The recorder can record high-defin ition images (mega pixel camera images) in SXGA (12 8 0 x 960) JPEG four times that of the existing V GA (640 x 4 8 0). This makes it possi b le to record a w ide angle of vie w and to zoom in w itho ut fuzziness to check things.
Outline of Functions 17 The RAID function makes it possi b le to improve the HDD ' s tolerance to errors. This product is e q uipped w ith the RAID6 mode that can recover image data w hen t w o HDDs fail, in addition to the RAID5 mode that can recover image data (RAID6 has t w o sets of error correcting code data).
Outline of Functions 1 8 High through put is achieved b y separating the camera port and the client PC port. In addition to ac q uiring extremely sta b le images, you can connect a maximum of 64 cameras and 16 clie nt PCs, depending on your net w ork.
Outline of Functions 19 Event operations inc lude the following. • Start recording images Recording is done according to the recordin g duration and rate settings on the settings menu. T he images from a camera before an event occurs can be recor ded and linked to the event (pre- record event).

22 Installation an d Setup Gettin g Started The procedure to start operations is sho w n b elo w . Setup Procedure 1 Rack Mountin g Mount the recorder into the rack (page 23). Go to step 2 if you are not using a rack. 2 Connections Connect the recorder to the various devices (page 25).
23 Setting up the Rack Install the recorder into an EIA standard compliant rack. Note: • Installation in a rack requ ires four M5 x 12 screws. 1 Remove the 5 rubber feet from the underside of the recorder. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the rubber feet.
Settin g up the Rack 24 W hen connecting multiple extension units ( W J-HDE400) to the recorder, place the re co rder in the center of the rack. Connect the recorder and the extension unit w ith the co nnection ca b le (1 m {39.4 "}) included w ith the extension unit.
25 Connections This sections explains ho w to connect the PC, cameras, and extension units. The types of ca b les and other hard w are depend on ho w each setup is done. Before starting installation w ork, check to make sure you have everyth ing you need.
Connections 26 Usin g a HUB for Direct Connecti on The PC connects to the camera using the camera por t and the client PC port on the rear of the recorder. Camera images input through the camera port are sent to the PC from the client PC port. 2 Port Operation Important: • Connect the camera to the camera port and the PC to the client PC port.

About Connectors 33 Turning [On] the external s w itch starts emergency recording. Emergency recording operations differ depending on the [Emergency rec.] settings accessed through the Setup menu (refer to Setu p Instructions (PDF file)). Turning [On] the external s w itch, records b y s w itching the program.
About Connectors 34 When settin g s menu - [Bas ic] - [Time & date] - [Auto adju stment time] is set to [Sl ave] [Time Adjust Input] is availa b le and the time on the recorder is synch ronized w ith the other devices.
About Connectors 35 This section explains ho w to connect an Uninterrupti b le Po w er Supply (hereafter UPS) as part of your po w er outage countermeasures. W hen the recorder receives a po w er outage detection signal from the UP S, it b egins its internal po w er off se q uence (process to stop recording to protect the recorder).

Press the [SET] b utton to return to the display format screen. 12 Close the front cover and lock it by li g htly pressin g and turnin g the key to the left.
Usin g the Front Panel for Ope rations 4 8 7 Select [YES] with the arrow buttons (left or ri g ht) and then press the [SET] bu tton. 8 Select the number of the extension unit where you install ed the HDD with the arrow buttons (up or down) and press the [SET] but ton.
Usin g the Front Panel for Operations 49 9 Select [YES] with the arrow buttons (left or ri g ht) and then press the [SET] bu tton. The HDD stop process b egins and the HDD status indicator b links orange. The HDD status indicator goes out once the HDD stop process is complete.

For details refer to the operating instructions for the extension unit. 1 Insert the key (included) into the key ho le on the front cover of the extension unit and turn it while pressin g in g ently to open the fron t cover.

Troubleshootin g 56 Cannot recover data after replacing HDDs (In RAID5/RAID6 mode) Make sure the HDD unit is firmly inser ted into the disk slot. page 53 The HDD you are trying to recover data from has errors. - Make sure that the capacity of the replaced HDD is not smaller than the original HDD.
