4 INTRODUCT ION Thank Y ou for Choosing P ar asound Y our ne w Parasound Ha lo P 5 is an advanced 2.1 channel stereo pream plifier tha t has been designed for th e most advanc ed perform ance for serious t wo channel m usic listening and ease of integration wit h a surround s ound system .
5 Unpacking Y our P 5 & Placement G uidelines Unpacking Y our P 5 Carefully rem ove your P 5 from its shipping carton and lo cate the enc losed acces sories: • AC power cord • T wo trigger wires, one with mono 3.5 mm mini plugs, one with a m ono 2.
6 Analog Audio Input Connections Always disconn ect your P 5's AC c ord before m aking or c hanging any input, o utput or trigger wire connections. Inserting or rem oving an input or output c able while the P 5 is turned on can result in a blast of s ound that could damage your loudspeak ers.

8 Home Theater Bypass In put The Bypass i nput jack s are used to i ncorporate the P 5 into a surround sound s ystem . This enables you to use the p ower amplifier (or t wo channels of a multi-channe .
9 Digital Inputs (OPT , COAX, USB) The P 5’ s built in DAC (D igital to An alog Converter) us es a high res olution 192k Hz Burr-Bro wn DAC IC. Since the P 5’s DAC is superior to the DAC in most source components. They will sound better if you connect their digital output to the P 5 instead of using its conventiona l analog line output.
10 USB - Computer Setup First, turn on y o ur com puter , then connect the US B cable (i ncluded in the P 5 c arton) and the n turn on the P 5. The f irst time you connect your P 5 to a co mputer it w i ll automaticall y install the correct drivers. Next you will need to ensure that the P 5 is set as the com puter ’s default audio output device.
1 1 Subwoofer Setup There are t wo important ste ps in setting up y o ur sub(s) . These ar e crossover s etup and level set up. Subwoofer Crossov er Setup Y ou will want to turn off the crossover built into your subwoofer since the P 5 has its own crossovers and leaving both crossovers on would result in double f iltering.

13 T urn On Options For convenience, there are three ways the P 5 can be turned on and off: Manual - Press the On-Off button on the front panel or the On and Off buttons on the remote control. Automatic - When a 12V trigger voltage is applied to the 12V input jack.
14 Other Rear Panel Connections IR Input Y our P 5 is compatible with m ost popular infrared repeater s ystems for rem ote control operation from another room or when the P 5 is installed in a cabinet where its remote handset signals cannot reach its front pan el remote c ontrol sensor .
15 Front Panel Controls On-Off Bu tton A soft blue glow surroun ds the On-Off button when th e P 5 is turned off. Push the On-Off button once to turn on a nd the blue glo w will get br ighter . W hen the P 5 is turned on, the I nput indicator and Mute butto n will illum inate blue.
16 Front Panel Con trols (Continued )… Input Knob Rotating the Inp ut selector will cycle thr ough all of the inputs. The front panel L ED under each input will indicate when it is selected. Sub Leve l Knob The Sub Le vel control k nob adjusts the su bwoofer leve l.
17 Remote Control Function s The P 5 remote control has a maximum range of approximately 20 - 25 feet (6 - 7.5 m eter s). Use only AAA alk aline ba tteries in the handset and insert the m according to the + a nd – polarity markings in th e batte r y c ompartment .
18 Maintaining Y our P 5 Y our P 5 requires no peri odic m aintenance and has no user service able parts insid e. T o avoid risk of electric s hock do not rem ove the top cove r . T o keep it clean use o nly a soft cloth moistened with a f ew drops of clear water or W index.
19 Problems and Remedies Why is there no sound from the speakers? - Is the AC power live ? Y ou should see a faint red glow around th e Power butt on even when the unit is turn ed off. - Check that input and output c ables are secure at bot h ends. - Make sure your P 5 is switched to the correct input.
