T ypical application The CopperLink/L modem and CopperLink/R modem work together to create a transparent e xtension between two peered Ethernet LANs. Figure 1 shows a typical point-to-point application.
3.0 INSTALLATION Because the CopperLink Ethernet Extender requires no configuration, it can be installed quickly . If you are installing a standalone unit, ref er to section 3.1 “Standalone unit installation”. Otherwise, refer to section 3.2 “Rac k card installation”.
3.2 RACK CARD INSTALLATION The CopperLink Ethernet Extender rack card comprised a front card and a rear card.Do the f ollowing to install the cards into the rac k chassis: 1. Slide the rear card into the back of the chassis along the metal r ails. 2.
6. Connect the Ether net interf ace (ref er to section 3.4, “Connecting the 10/100Base-T Ethernet Interface” on page 11). 3.3 CONNECTING THE T WISTED-PAIR LINE INTERFACE The CopperLink Ethernet Extender suppor ts communication betw een two peer Ethernet LAN sites over a distance of up to 6,000 ft (1.
The terminal bloc k connector on the CopperLink Ethernet Extender's twisted pair interf ace is polarity insensitive and is wired f or a two-wire interf ace. The signal/pin relationships is shown in Figure 5. Figure 5. CopperLink Ethernet Extender twisted pair line interface.
Connecting the 10/100Base-T Ethernet P ort to a Hub The CopperLink Ethernet Extender 10/100Base-T interface is configured as DTE (Data T erminal Equipment), just like a 10/100Base-T network interf ace card in a PC. Theref ore, it “e xpects” to connect to a 10/100Base-T Hub using a straight-through RJ-45 cab le.
DC power (supplied via the po wer supply jac k to the CopperLink Ether- net Extender) must meet the f ollowing requirements; DC power supplied must be regulated +5VDC ±5%, 1.0A minimum. Center pin is +5V . The barrel type plug has a 2.5/5.5/10mm I.
4.0 CONFIGURATION (MODEL 2168 ONLY) The CopperLink Ethernet Extender has eight DIP switches f or configur- ing the unit f or a wide variety of applications.
