C2953M-B (10/09) 7 GETTING STARTED Before installing yo ur camera, thoroughly familia rize yourself with the information in this section. NOTES: • Pelco recommend s connecting the camera to a network that uses a Dynamic Host Co nfiguration Protocol (D HCP) server to address d evices.

C2953M-B (10/09) 9 PRODUCT LABEL The produc t label lists the model number , dat e code, seria l number , and Media Access Control ( MAC) addre ss. This informat ion mi gh t be required for setup. T o access th e product label rem o ve the back cover of the camer a (refer to Figure 2 and Figure 3).
10 C2953M-B (10/09) Installation NOTE: Megapixel lense s are designed and tested to deliver optimal imag e quality to megapixel ca meras. A standard definition len s ins talled on a megapixel camera will limit th e resolution of the camera and cr eate poor image quality.
C2953M-B (10/09) 11 4. For FCC Class B installatio ns, attach the supp lied ferrite to th e network cable (re fer to Figure 5). The ferrit e should be ins talled on t he cable approximately 1 inch (2.54 cm) fr om the camera’ s RJ-45 network port. Figure 5.
12 C2953M-B (10/09) SERVICE CABLE The camera includes a service port th at outputs camera video. Use it at the inst allation sit e to set up t he field of view and t o focus the camera. Pelco offers an optional se rvice cable (I X-SC) that plugs d irect ly into the service port.
C2953M-B (10/09) 13 WIRING CAT5 CABLE Connect a Cat 5 cable to an RJ -45 network co nnector (no t supplied). Th e 8-pin con nector include s video and PoE for the c amera. P oE (IEEE 802.3af) injects power o ver the same cabling that carries the n etwork data , eliminating the need fo r a separate power supply.
14 C2953M-B (10/09) ALARM, RELAY , AND 24 V AC CONNECTOR Single Camera Wiring If PoE is not availabl e: 1. Connect the a l arm, relay , and 24 V AC wires to the supplied mating connector (ref er to Figure 8). NOTE: Only use the 24 VAC wires if PoE is not available .
C2953M-B (10/09) 15 Connecting Ala rms The camera p rovides an alar m input for e xternal signali ng devices, such as door contacts or motion detectors.
16 C2953M-B (10/09) Unsupervised Alarms When an a larm is config ured as an unsupervised alarm, the cam era only activates an alarm when the n ormal alarm st ate (open or c losed) changes. Figure 12 illus trates the al arm and no alarm co nditions of a n unsupervised alarm input.
C2953M-B (10/09) 17 Operation CAMERA CONFIGURATIO N SEQUENCE Once the came ra is install ed and power is applied, the c amera will start a configuration sequence: the gr een LED flashes five t imes per secon d for appro ximately two minu tes and then glows solid gr een, indicat ing that the boot cycle is complete and the camera is o n line.
18 C2953M-B (10/09) ACCESSING THE IP CAMERA The first ti me you access the ca mera, the live vid eo page appear s. By default, you are viewing the vide o as a public user an d o nly have access to the single stream live view.
C2953M-B (10/09) 19 Live V ideo Page The live vide o page allows you to manage th e way you view li ve video and cap ture images. Y ou can also v iew live vide o from this page and access menus o n the naviga tion bar (bas ed on user per missions). Figure 15.
20 C2953M-B (10/09) LIVE VIDEO PAGE ICONS Viewable icons are based on user pe rmissions. Show Device List: Displays a list of viewable camer as connected t o the sa me virtual local ar ea network (VLAN) as the camera to which you are logged on. Disable Vi ewer: Closes the live view window .

Select one of t he following st ream option s from the Select St ream page: Primary Stream: T o selec t this stream, click th e button next to Primary Str eam. 24 C2953M-B (10/09) System T ab The System t ab includes configurable and read-only fields. Th e General Sett ings and T i me Settings fi elds are con figurable. The System Information fields are re ad-only and include the f irmware version, hardware ve rsion, model numb er , an d serial number of the sys tem.
C2953M-B (10/09) 25 CHANGING THE DEVICE NAME 1. Click the System tab. 2. Click the Device Name bo x and highlight the text. 3. T ype a user -friendly name into the Device Name box (2 to 64 char acters). A user-f riendly name makes it easier to recognize th e de vice on the network.
26 C2953M-B (10/09) Network T ab Use the Network ta b to change the camera’ s general network se ttings, configure Secure Socke ts Layer (SSL), and enable Secure Sh ell (SSH). General Network Settings The General Network pa ge includes programmable and read-o nly fi elds for network commun ication settin gs.

JP EG has the least impact on the camera's pr ocessor, but i t req uires the most bandwidth. H264: A ne w version of MP EG-4 compressio n used in high-definition video playe rs such as Blu-ray ™ and HD-DVD.

Th is setting is only available with H.264. RATE CONTROL The rate contr o l setting deter mines the bit rate and qu ality of each fram e in the video stream.

Users User accounts can be created and added to groups to limit th e pe rmissions given to individuals logged on to the camer a.
