5 Introduction Welcome to A T &T’s U-verse video servic e. The IPH8005, IPH8010, and IPH81 10 U-verse receivers bring a new set of interactive services directly to you through your TV and your in-home IP network.

7 Front panel The following illustra tion shows the buttons, lights, and connectors on the front of the receiver . Power button T urns the set-top box on or off. Power light Lights green when the set-top box is power ed on. Blinks when receiving input fro m the remote control or when the front-panel buttons are pressed.
8 Back panel The following illustra tion shows the ports a nd connectors on the back of the receiver . TO W ALL (VIDEO IN) Connects the HPNAv3 in-home network over coaxial cable, if applicable. NETWORK Connects the Ethernet network cable, if applicable.
9 Connecting the Receiver T o view programs broadcast in high defini tion, your receiver mu st be connected to a suitable high-definition TV or computer monito r . Y our receiver is also compatible with standard-definition TVs. Y our receiver should have been conne cted to your TV by your installer .
10 Connect the receiver to the home network If you connect to your IPTV signal from your HPNA v3 in-home netwo rk over coaxial cable, use the TO W ALL (VID EO IN) connector on the back panel of the receiver to connect to the HPNAv3 in-home network through a coaxial cable.
11 Connect the receiver to the TV The connections for an HD or SD TV are di fferent, and before you begi n, you must determine if your TV is HD or SD. Y our TV must receive HD signal s for you to enjoy the benefits of HDTV . Refer to t he manual that ca me with your TV for more information.
12 Connections for SDTV T o use the receiver with standard-definition TVs, you n eed to use one of the following connections to view SD content. Fo r more information about making SDTV connections, check the owner ’s manual for your TV and the appropriate conne ction diagrams in this manual.
13 Using an HD MI connection The HDMI connector provides the connecti on to an HDTV . HDMI carries signals for video and audio. T o connect the receiver to the TV using an H DMI cable: 1. Insert one end of the HDMI cable into th e HDMI connector on the receiver .
14 Using a DVI connection with digital audio The HDMI connector on the rece iver can provide the connection to an HDTV with a DVI input. If your HDTV has a DVI (Digital Visual Interface) connector , you need an HDMI-to-DVI cable and a separate digital optical audio cable.
15 Using a DVI connecti on with analog audio The HDMI connector on the rece iver can provide the connection to an HDTV with a DVI input. If your HDTV has a DVI (Digital Visual Interface) connector , you need an HDMI-to-DVI cable and a separate analog audio cable.
16 Using a component video connec tion with digital audio Component video uses the Y Pb Pr (green , blue, and red) con nectors to provide component video signals to an HDTV or SDTV . Y ou must conne ct the audio signal separately using a digital optical audio cable.

18 Using a composite video connection Composite video provides the vi deo connection to a SDTV . Y ou must connect th e audio signal separately . T o connect the receiver to the TV using a composite video cable: 1. Insert the yello w video connector on the color-coded composite vi deo cable into the VIDEO OUT (yellow) connector on the receiver .
19 Using an RF coaxial connection The RF coaxial connector provi des the connection to an SDTV . The RF coaxial cable carries signals for standard video and audio. T o connect the receiver to the TV using an RF coaxia l cable: 1. Insert one end of the RF coaxial cable into the TO TV connector on the receiver .
20 Connecting the receiver to a home theater system If your television viewi ng configuration in cludes a home theater system, you can connect the receiver directly to the home theater system receiver . The following example uses the HDMI port to provide the video and audio signals from the receiver to the home theater system.
21 Plug in the receiver Use the power adapter included in the container to provide AC power to the receiver . T o avoid possible damage to the apparatus or to a connected TV or component, all AC power cords must be plu gged into properly wired outlets.

23 • V erify that the rece iver is set to the proper screen type and resolution. No Color or Incorrect Color • V erify that the curre nt TV program is broadcast in color . • Adjust the TV color controls. • If you are using a component video conn ection, check that all connectors are completely and properly conne cted.
24 Frequently asked questions What is digital television? Digital television (DTV) is a significant leap forward in television technolo gy compared to analog te levision that has been widely available si nce the 1940s. DTV is delivered and displayed using digital encoding, similar to the way a computer operates.
25 Picture formats What is the difference be tween a standard-screen and a wide-screen HDTV? The type of screen your HDTV has (wide-screen or standard-screen) determines how the receiver displays programs on the screen .
