5 2. Press the tab on the base battery cover (on the bottom of the telephone base) toward the cover and swing open the battery door. 3. Insert three new AAA alkaline batteries, matching the + and - signs engraved on the telephone base.

7 1. Plug the small end of the handset charger power adapter into the jack on the underside of the charger , then route the cor d through the slot as shown. 2. Plug the handset charger power adapter into a power outlet not controlled b y a wall switch.
Getting st arted Handset bat t ery inst allation & char ging Install the batt ery as shown below . After installing the battery , you can make and receive short calls, but replace the handset in the charger when the handset is not being used. For optimal performance, charge the handset battery for at least 16 hours befor e use.
Getting st arted Install ation options The telephone base comes with the mounting bracket already installed for desktop use. If wall mounting is desired, a telephone outlet wall mounting plate with mounting studs is required.

T elephone oper ation 19 Options while on calls Mute The mute function allows you to silence the microphone. You can hear the caller, but the caller will not be able to hear you. To mute the call on a cor dless handset: • Press MUTE/ REMOVE to silence the microphone.

27 T elephone oper ation Handset set tings K ey tone The handset is factory pr ogrammed to beep with each key pr ess. If you turn off the KEY TONE , there will be no beeps when k eys are pr essed. 28 T elephone oper ation Handset set tings Visual message waiting (voic email) indicator If you subscribe to a voic email service offer ed by your local tel ephone company , the voicemail waiting indicator featur e will provide visual indication when you have new voic email messages.
29 T elephone oper ation Handset set tings T emporary ring silencing Press OFF/ CLEAR or MUTE/ REM OV E while the telephone is ringing to sil ence the ringer temporaril y . This will silence the ringer without disconnecting the call. The next inc oming call will ring normally at the preset v olume.

Answering system oper ation 50 A bo u t th e an s w er in g s y s t e m The answering system can r ecor d up to 99 messages, depending on the length of each message. Individual messages can be up to four minutes long, and the tot al maximum r ecording time is 14 minutes.
51 Day & time announcement T o check day & time Y ou can press CL OCK when the system is idle t o hear the current day and time. If you subscribe to Caller ID servic e from your local telephone c ompany , the time will automatically be set with every inc oming call.
52 Answering syst em mode Unless you change it, the answering system will be on and ready to record messages. You can turn the answering system off, but if you do so, the answering system will not answer calls and record incoming messages. T o turn the answering system on or off: • Press ANSWER ON to turn off your answering system.

55 NOTE: To adjust the voice prompt volume, press VOLUME . Answering syst em setup You can change the number of rings, call screening status, remote access code and message alert tone. To change the answering system setup: 1. Press SETUP repeatedly to hear the settings for different features.
Answering syst em setup Number of rings Y ou can set the answering system to answer an incoming call aft er two, four , or six rings. Y ou can also select toll sav er , which is explained below . Unless you change it, the answering system answers an inc oming call after f our rings.

Answering syst em setup Message alert tone When the message alert tone is set to On , and there is at least one new message, the telephone base will beep every 10 seconds. Unless you change it, the message alert tone is set to off. To change the setting: 1.
Message playback Press PLAY /STOP to hear messages. The system announces the number of messages, then begins playback. If you have new messages, you will hear only the new messages (oldest first). If there are no new messages, the system will play back all messages (oldest first).
