4 Before You Begin System Requirement s Before Y ou Begin Before you begin installi ng your new graphics card, please do the following. Hardware • Intel® Pentium® 4 or AMD Athlon®. • 512MB of system memory; 1GB or more for best performance. • Optical drive for installation software (CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive).
Before You Begin 5 Record Y our Serial and Part Numbers The serial number and 102 part numbe r printed on the graphics card are required for registration. They are lo cated on a sticker on the back of the card. Write the numbers, shown in bold above, down before instal ling your new ATI product.

7 CHAPTER 2: Inst alling Hardware This chapter will guide you through the physical instal lation of your new Radeon graphics card. L Consult your system builder or OE M to ensure that your system has an adequate power supply . A PCI Express ® compatible system has a specialized 12V graphics card power connector.
8 Installing the graphi cs card 1 T urn off the computer , monitor , and other peripheral devices. 2 Unplug the computer ’ s power cord and disc onnect all cables from the back of your computer . 3 Remove the computer cover . If necessary , consult your computer ’ s manual for help in removing the cover .
Connecting Devices 9 7 Connect the power cable to the 6-pin power connection on the graphics card. 8 Screw in or fasten the graphics card securely . Make sure the cables are not interfering with anything in side the computer (for example, a cooling fan) and replace the computer cover .

Connecting Your Monitors 11 CHAPTER 3: Using Multiple Displays Connecting Y our Monitors Your Radeon ® X1950 XTX graphi cs card provides hardware support for two DVI-I monitors and a VGA moni tor using the supplied DVI-I-to-V GA adapter. It also provides TV output v ia an S-Video Out connector.

CrossFire ™ Overview 35 CHAPTER 7: Using the Radeon ® X1950 XTX with CrossFire ™ The Radeon ® X1950 XTX can be used as a Slave graphics card in a CrossFire ™ system. For the full system requirements necessary to put tog ether a working CrossFire ™ system, see the CrossFire ™ FAQ.
36 CrossFire ™ Rendering Modes The first three are perfor mance-oriented modes, while Super Anti-aliasing is a quality-oriented mode. Each mode uses a different method for dividing the workload required to render a 3D image across multiple GPUs. Only one mode can be in operation at any given time .
CrossFire ™ Rendering Mo de s 37 SuperTiling has the advantage o f being able to work with practically any 3D application. However, there are a small number of applications where the SuperTiling workload distribution does n ot provide optimal performance.
38 CrossFire ™ Rendering Modes Although Scissor Mode is generally a less efficient means of splitting the workload than using SuperTiling , th ere are a few cases where it can be more efficient. It is supported by CrossFire ™ in order to maximize compatibility an d performan ce.
Super Anti-aliasing Mode 39 The main limitation of this mode is that it cannot be used in appl ications where the appearance of the current frame is dependent upon data generated in previous frames, since AFR generates successive frames simultaneously on d ifferent GPUs.
40 Super Anti-aliasing Mode Some types of textures, especially those with transpar ent portions, can exhibit aliasing that is not removed by MSA A techniques. Another form of anti-aliasing, known as Super-sample Anti-aliasing (SSAA), can be useful in these cases, because it affects ever y pixel in an im age.
Super Anti-aliasing Mode 41 pattern that does a better job of anti-aliasing near-h orizontal and near- vertical edges, resulting in better overall image quali ty. Two of the new Super Anti-a liasing modes use a combination of MSAA and SSAA to achieve the ultimate in im age quality.

44 5 Which slot does the CrossFir e ™ Master card go into on the motherboard? The CrossFire ™ Master card must go into the primary PCI Ex press ® slot (slot zero) on the motherboard. Note: T o determine which PCIe ™ slot is the primary slot, consult your motherboard manual.
