Chapter 1 Introduction The WAP-6100 is an out door 802.1 1g CPE AP with 1 2dBi antenna built in. This manual describes th e details of how to manage this equipment.

W AP-6100. 1. Site selection T o avoid interfer ences, pl ease locate W AP-6100 and wireless clients away from transformers, microwave ovens, heavy-dut y motors, refrigerat ors, fluorescent lights, and other industrial equipments.
Chapter 2 Hardware Installation Before you proceed with the installation, it is nec essary that you hav e enough information about the W AP-6100. 1. Locate an optimum location and use the provide d metal ring to secure W AP-610 0 to a mast.

Chapter 3 Initial Setup The WAP-6100 allows configuration eit her via the confi guration utilit y , kno wn as Locator , or Web Browser through network. For the initial installation, we sug gest using the PLANET WAP-6100 Locator . Before using Locator , ple ase make sure the personal firewall installed in your PC i s disabled.
4. After type in correct user name and password , the “IP Setting” box appears. Here you can choose to obtain IP from a DHCP server or spec ify IP address manually . If your envir onment or ISP provide DHCP server , you can choos e the first option.
Chapter 4 Web Configuration Web configuration provides a user-friendly graph ic al user interface ( web pages) to manage you r W AP-6100. An AP w ith an assigned IP address (e.g. http://192.168.1.1 ) will allow you to mo nitor and configure via web browser (e.
Current IP Settings • This section sho ws current IP address setting including IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DHCP status. Current Wireless Settings • This area shows current wireless setting incl uding operation mode, wireless mode, SSID, channel and security setting.
4.1.3 System Properties Device Name Y ou may assign an y name to the WAP-6100. Memorable, Unique names are helpful especially if you are employing m ultiple access points on the same network. The device name needs to be less than 32 characters. After verify the name you input and click “ Ap pl y” to save the setting.
Administrator Name Y ou change the administrator login name in this field. Password T ype the ne w password here if you need to chan ge it. Confirm Password Re-type the new password again, then click the “Appl y” belo w to save the changes. 4.1.5 IP Settings This page can configure system IP address.
4.1.6 Wireless Network SSID The SSID is the unique name shared among all APs and clients in a wireless network. The SSID must be identical for all points in the wireless network. It is case-sensitive and must not exc eed 32 alphanumeric c haracters, which may be any keyboard character.
WP A security mode. Once you setup the AP to work in security mode, all wireless stations w ill also need to have corresponding settings. System default setting is “No Security” . WEP Authentication type Select the appropri ate value - "Open Sy stem" or "Shared Key".
Shared keys input type Select HEX or ASCII depends on your preference. Default key The default key , selected by the radio bu tton, is required. The other keys are optional.
WP A RA DIU S se rv er Enter the IP address of your RADIUS server . RADIUS port S pecif y the port number for R ADIUS service, default value is 1812. RADIUS secret RADIUS secret is the key shared bet ween W AP-6100 an d RADIUS server . Cipher type WP A gives you two encryption methods, TKIP and AES, with dynamic encryption keys.
4.1.8 Wireless Advanced Settings Data rate Y ou can select all d ata rates supported in current operation mode. Defau lt value is “ best ” which means the system will automatically adjust the connection speed dynamically accordi ng to your current link status.
Fragment length (256-2346) This specifies the maximum size of a data packet. It should remain at it s default setting of 2,346. A smaller setting means smaller packets, which will create more packets for each transmission.
4.1.9 MAC Filter Click on the “Enable MAC Filtering” button, the rule hav e allow only station in list (accept) or allo w any station unless in list (deny).
4.1.11 Firmware Upgrade Enter the location of the new firmware file in the file path field, or click the “Browse” button to find the firmware upgrade file. Then click on the “Upgrade” bu tton, and follo w the on-screen instructions. The whole firmware upgrade pr oce ss will take around 60 seconds.
4.2 Wireless Client Mode W AP-6100 can also work as an Ethernet client bridge to connect up to 16 Ethernet device into wireless network. In order to setup the W AP-6100 to w ork in Ethernet bridge mode, you need to choose “ Wireless Client ” mode and click “ Apply ” at System Properties page.
Network type Here indicates the WAP-6100 works in AP mode or Client mode (Infrastructure mode / Ad Hoc mode). SSID Here displays current SSID assigned to the W AP-610 0. BSSID The MAC address of the associated AP . Connection st atus This column shows current connection status.
Network mode Y ou can set the wireless client into 2 different modes by clicking radio button . Wireless Client (Infrastructure) act as an AP client while Ad-hoc can supp ort peer-to-peer net work. The Infrastructure mode can support up to 108M SuperG transmission.
4.2.4 Ethernet Client List Y ou can check all the details about Ethernet clients including IP Address and MAC Address. Press “Refresh” if you add any new Ethernet c lient into network. The page will update latest stat us of current Ethernet network.
4.3.1 Wireless Network After enable the repeater mode, you can click on “ Wi reless Netw ork ” and choose “ Site Survey ” to pick one of the SSIDs you would like to retransm it its signal . (Please be noted that while using the repeater mode, the throughput perfor mance maybe nearl y only half compare with Access Point mode.
4.4 Wireless Bridge Wireless Bridge mode help to make the two or more Ethernet net works connected without any wire. With multiple W AP-6100s in this mode, several LANs in distance can communicate to each other . T his could be deployed if the networks are hard to mak e the wire in between.
Considerations befo re inst allation – z Loop Preve ntion – Be careful to plan you WDS connection s, prevent your wireless net work topology to have loop. Once lo op sho ws up, you network traffic will become unstable. z Performance – T he system can support up to 8 WDS links.
