6 ASSEMBL Y CHECK TIRE PRESSURE The tires on your tr actor were o v erinfl ated at the f actory f or shipping pur poses. Correct tire pressure is impor tant f or best cutting perf ormance. • Reduce tire pressure to PSI shown on tires . CHECK DECK LEVELNESS F or best cutting results, mo wer housing should be properly le v eled.

10 OPERA TION T O ADJUST MO WER CUT TING HEIGHT (See Fig. 8) The po si tion of the at tach ment lift le ver (A) de ter mines the cut ting height. • Put attachment lift le v er in desired cutting height slot. • Slide pointer tab (T) to desired cutting height as a reminder f or ne xt time y ou mow .

12 CA UTION: Alcohol b lended fuels (called gasohol or using ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture which leads to sep a ra tion and f or ma tion of acids during storage. Acidic gas can dama ge the fuel system of an engine while in storage. T o av oid engine pr oblems, the fuel system should be emptied before stor age of 30 days or longer .

See “T O LEVEL MOWER HOUSING” in the Ser vice and Adjustments section of this manual. • The left hand side of mower should be used f or trim- ming. • Drive so that clippings are discharged onto the area that has been cut.

16 MAINTENANCE V- B E LT S Check V -belts f or deterioration and wear after 100 hours of operation and replace if necessary . The belts are not ad just able . Re place belts if they begin to slip from w ear . TRANSAXLE COOLING The transmission f an and cooling fi ns should be kept clean to assure proper cooling.
17 MAINTENANCE MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spar k arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e v er y 100 hours of operation, whiche v er occurs fi rst.
18 D C B H E F M L K A W ARNING: T O A V OID SERIOUS INJUR Y , BEFORE PERFORMING ANY SER VICE OR AD JUST - MENTS: • Depress brake pedal fully and set parking brake. • Place attachment c lutch in “DISENGA GED” position. • T urn ignition key to “ST OP” and remove key .

Mov e mower as needed to inser t bar . - Secure with washer and retainer spring as shown using small 5/16 retainer spring. NO TE: Be sure mo wer side suspension arms (A) are point- ing f orward bef ore sliding mower under tractor .
20 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O LEVEL MO WER Make sure tires are properly infl ated to the PSI sho wn on tires. If tires are ov er or under infl ated, it ma y aff ect the appearance of y our lawn and lead y ou to think the mo wer is not adjusted properly .
21 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS FIG. 25 02548 B B PRECISION SIDE-T O-SIDE ADJUSTMENT (See Fig. 26) • With all tires properly infl ated, park tractor on le v el ground or drive w a y . CA UTION: Blades are sharp. Protect y our hands with gloves and/or wrap blade with hea vy cloth.
22 NO TE: Each full turn of the adjustment nut will change mower height about 1/8". • Recheck measurements, adjust if necessary until front tip of blade is 1/8" to 1/2" lo wer than the rear tip . • Hold adjustment nut in position with wrench and tighten jam nut securely against adjustment nut.
