11 NO TE: Under cer tain conditions when tractor is standing idle with the engine running, hot engine exhaust gases ma y cause “brown ing” of grass.
12 T O OPERA TE ON HILLS W ARNING: Do not drive up or down hills with slopes great er than 15° and do not drive across an y slope. • Choose the slowest speed bef ore star ting up or down hills. • A v oid stopping or changing speed on hills . • If slowing is necessary , move throttle control le v er to slower position.
13 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 5) When star ting the engine for the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cr anking time to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Sit on seat in operating position, depress clutch/brak e pedal and set parking brake .
14 MO WING TIPS • Mow er should be proper ly lev eled f or best mowing per- for mance. See "T O LEVEL MO WER HOUSING" in the Ser vice and Adjustments section of this manual. • The left hand side of mower should be used f or trim- ming. • Drive so that clippings are discharged onto the area that has been cut.

17 FIG. 9 B A TTER Y Y our tractor has a batter y charging system which is suf fi cient f or normal use. Howe v er , per iodic charging of the batter y with an automotive charger will e xtend its life. • K eep battery and ter minals clean. • K eep battery bolts tight.
18 MAINTENANCE CLEANING • Clean engine, batter y , seat, fi nish, etc. of all f oreign matter . • Keep fi nished surfaces and wheels free of all gasoline, oil, etc.
19 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS W ARNING: T O A V OID SE RI OUS IN JU R Y , BEFORE PERFORMING ANY SER VICE OR ADJUST - MENTS: • Depress clutc h/brake pedal fully and set parking brake. • Place gearshift lever in neutral (N) position. • Place attachment c lutch in “DISENGA GED” position.

23 REPLA CING BA TTER Y (See Figs. 24 and 25) W ARNING: Do not short batter y ter mi nals by allowing a wrenc h or an y other object to contact both terminals at the same time. Bef ore connect- ing battery , remo ve metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc.
24 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor f or storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 da ys or more. W ARNING: Never store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
25 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se v eral min utes bef ore attempting to star t. 4. Bad spark plug.
