12 T O OPERA TE ON HILLS W ARNING: Do not drive up or do wn hills with slopes great er than 15° and do not drive across an y slope . • Choose the slow est speed before star ting up or down hills. • A void stopping or changing speed on hills. • If slowing is necessar y , move throttle control le ver to slower position.
13 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 5) When star ting the engine for the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mov e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Sit on seat in operating position, depress clutch/brak e pedal and set parking brake .

16 MAINTENANCE V- B E LT S Check V -belts for deterioration and w ear after 100 hours and replace if necessar y . The belts are not adjustable. Re place belts if they begin to slip from w ear . TRANSAXLE COOLING K eep transaxle free from build-up of dirt and chaff which can restrict cooling.
17 MAINTENANCE CLEANING • Clean engine, batter y , seat, fi nish, etc. of all foreign matter . • Keep fi nished surfaces and wheels free of all gasoline, oil, etc.

22 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS 02778 T O REPLA CE HEADLIGHT BULB • Raise hood. • Pull bulb holder out of the hole in the backside of the grill. • Replace bulb in holder and push b ulb holder securely back into the hole in the bac kside of the grill.
23 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor for storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 days or more. W ARNING: Ne ver store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
24 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. Wait se veral min utes before attempting to start. 4. Bad spark plug.
25 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS PROBLEM CA USE CORRECTION Engine continues to run 1. F aulty operator-safety presence control system. 1. Check wiring, switches and connections. If not when operator leaves seat corrected, contact an authorized ser vice center/ with attachment clutc h depar tment.
