2 SAFETY RULES WAR N IN G : A lways disconnect spark plug wire and place wire wher e it cannot contact spark plug to prevent accidental starting when setting up, transporting, ad- justing or making repa irs except car buretor adjustments.
3 S T urn the engine off and let saw cool in a non-combustible area, not on dry leaves, straw , paper , etc. Slowly remove fuel cap and refuel unit. S Store t he unit and fue l in an area where fuel vapors cannot reach sparks or open flames from water heaters, e lectric motors or switches, furnace s, e tc.
4 MAINT AIN CONTROL Never reverse ha nd positions Stand to the le ft of the saw Thumb on underside of handlebar Elbow locked S Keep a good, firm grip on the saw with both hands when the engine is running and don’t let go. A firm grip will help you reduce k ickback and maintain control of the saw.

Attempting to tension the chain when the bar nuts are tight can cause damage .
7 ST ARTING WAR N IN G : The chain must not move when the engine runs at idle speed. If the chain moves at idl e speed refer to CARBU- RETOR ADJUSTMENT within this manual. Avoid contact with the muffler . A hot muffler can cause serious burns. To s t o p t h e e n g i n e move the switch to the STOP or OFF position.

Y ou can lose con- trol of the saw re sulting in personal injury and/or damage to the saw . Stop the saw and drive plastic or wooden wedge into the cut until saw can be removed easily.
11 AIR FILTER CAUTION: Do not clean filter in gasoline or other flammable solvent to avoid creating a fire hazard or producing harmful evapora - tive emissions. Cleaning the air filter: A dirty air filter decreases engine perfor m- ance and increases f uel co nsumption and harm ful emissions .
