8 CHAIN TENSION (including units with chain already installed) NOTE: When adjusting chain tension, make sure the bar nuts are finger tight only . Attempting to tension the chain when the bar nuts are tight will cause damage. Checking the tension: Use the screwdriver end of the combina- tion screwdriver/wrench tool to move the chain around the bar .
9 POWER CORD The POWER CO RD is used to connect the chain saw to an approved extension cord. CHAIN TENSION It i s normal for a new chain t o stret ch dur - ing fi rst 30 minutes of operati on. Y ou should check your chain tension frequent - ly . See CHAI N T ENS I ON under the SER- VI CE AND A DJUS TM ENT S sect ion.
10 Braking function control CAUTION: The chai n brake must be checked several t imes dail y . The motor must be running when perf orming thi s procedure. This is the only instance when the saw shoul d be pl aced on the gr ound with t he motor runni ng.
11 FELLING LARGE TREES (6 inches i n diameter or l arger) The notch method is used to fell large trees. A notch i s cut on the side of t he tree in the desire d directio n of fall. After a felling cut is made on the opposit e side of t ree, the tree w ill tend to fall in the direc tion of the notch.
12 Overcutting Under cutting Undercutt ing i nvolves cutti ng on t he un - derside of the l og with top of saw agai nst the log. When under cutti ng use li ght up - ward pressure. Hold saw firmly and main - tain cont rol . The saw will t end to push back toward you.
13 S Remove larger branches wi th the cut - ting t echniques descri bed BUCK I NG WITHO UT A SUPPO R T . S Always use an overcut t o cut small and freel y hanging l imbs. Undercut ting could cause l imbs to fal l and pi nch the saw . PRUNING W ARNING: Limit pruning to limbs shoulder height or below.
14 CHECK CHAIN TENSION W ARNING: Wear protective gloves when handling chain. The chain is sharp and can cut you even when it is not moving. Chain tensi on is very important . Chain stret ches during use. Thi s is especi ally true during the fir st few times you use your saw .
15 LUBRICA TION Bar Spro cket Bar Oil Fill Cap S Check bar and chain oi l befor e use and every 15 minutes while operat ing the saw . See GU IDE BAR AND C HAIN OIL un - der the OPERA TIO N sect ion. S Lubricat e bar sprocket hole aft er each use. INSPECT AND CLEAN UNIT AND LABELS S After each use, inspect complete unit for loose or damaged part s.
16 S Place chai n around the spr ocket and fit the dri ve links into t he guide bar groove and then around gui de bar nose. S Hold the gui de bar against the saw frame and inst all the bar clamp. Be sure adjust ing pi n is i n t he adjust ing pin hol e in the bar.
17 TROUBLE CAUSE REMEDY Chain does not move when trigger switch is engaged . 1. Chain tension incorrect. 2. Guide bar rails pinched. 3. T rigger switch failure. 4. Circuit breaker tripped/ fuse failure. 1. See “Check Chain T ension” in Maintenance section.
