8 8. I f chain is too loos e, it will sag below the guide bar . D O N OT operate the s aw if the c hain is loos e. NOTE: T he chain is tensioned correctly when the w eight of the c hain doe s not cau se it to s ag below the guide bar ( with the c hain saw s itting in an up right position) , but the c hain still mov es freely ar ound the guide bar.
9 WAR N I NG : If the s aw is operated with a loos e chain, the c hain could jump off the guide bar and r esult in s erious injur y to the operator and/or damage the c hain mak- ing it unus able. BEFORE ST AR TI NG ENGINE WAR N I NG : Muffler is v ery hot during and after us e.
10 IMPORT ANT POI NTS T O REMEMBER When pulling the s tarter rope, do not us e the full ex tent of the rope as this c an c ause the rope to br ea k. Do not let s tarter rope snap back .
11 Braki ng f unct ion cont r ol CAUTION: The chain br ake must be chec ked s everal times daily. The engine must be running when per forming this pr oce- dure. This is the only inst ance when the s aw should be plac ed on the ground with the en- gine running.
12 NOTE: If the tr ee has large butt ress roots , remov e them before making the notc h. If us - ing saw to remov e buttres s roots , k eep saw chain from c ontacting ground t o prevent dull- ing of the c hain. NOTCH CUT AND FELLING THE TREE S Make notc h cut by c utting the top of the notch firs t.

15 S Clean the oil holes and bar groov e after each 5 hours of operation. Remo ve Sawdust From Guide B ar Groov e Oil H oles S Burring of guide bar rail s is a normal proc ess of r ail wear . Remove thes e burrs with a flat file. S When rail top is unev en, use a f lat file to re- stor e square edges and sides .
16 REPLACE SP ARK PLUG The spar k plug should be replaced each year to ens ure the engine starts eas ier and runs better. Ignition timing is fix ed and non- adjust able. NOTE: This s park ignition sy st em c omplies with t he Canadian s tandard I CES - - 002.

18 Follow the mix inst ructions found on stabiliz - er c ontainers. R un engine at leas t 5 minutes after adding s tabilizer . Poulan/WEE D EA TER 40:1, 2- cycl e engine oil (air c ooled) is blended with fuel s tabilizer. If y ou do not use this oil, you c an a dd a fuel st abilizer to y our fuel tank .
