13 OPERA TION T O TRANSPORT (See Figs. 8 and 12) When pushing or towing y our tractor , be sure to disengage transmission b y placing freewheel control in free wheel ing po si tion. F ree wheel control is located at the rear drawbar of tractor . • Raise attachment lift to highest position with at tach ment lift control.
14 OPERA TION T O ST ART ENGINE (See Fig. 8) When star ting the engine f or the fi rst time or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will take e xtra cranking time to mo v e fuel from the tank to the engine. • Be sure freewheel control is in the tr ansmission en gaged position.
15 OPERA TION FIG. 13 PURGE TRANSMISSION CA UTION: Never engage or disengage freewheel le ver while the engine is run- ning. T o ensure proper operation and perf ormance, it is rec om - mend ed that the transmission be purged bef ore operating tractor f or the fi rst time.

17 MAINTENANCE TRA CT OR Alwa ys observe saf ety rules when performing any main- te nance. BRAKE OPERA TION If tractor requires more than six (6) f eet stopping distance at high speed in highest gear , then br ake m ust be adjusted. (See “T O ADJUST BRAKE” in the Service and Ad just ments section of this manual).
18 MAINTENANCE TRANSAXLE COOLING The f an and cooling fi ns of transmission should be k ept clean to assure proper cooling. Do not attempt to clean f an or transmission while engine is running or while the transmission is hot. T o pre v ent pos- sible damage to seals , no not use high pressure water or steam to clean transaxle.
19 MAINTENANCE 00 667 MUFFLER Inspect and replace corroded muffl er and spark arrester (if equipped) as it could create a fi re hazard and/or dam- age. SP ARK PLUGS Replace spark plugs at the beginning of each mowing season or after e very 100 hours of operation, whiche v er occurs fi rst.
20 T O LEVEL MO WER HOUSING Adjust the mower while tr actor is parked on le v el ground or drive wa y . Make sure tires are properly infl ated (See “PROD UCT SPECIFICA TIONS” section of this manual). If tires are ov er or underinfl ated, you will not properly adjust you r m ower.

23 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS T O ADJUST A TT A CHMENT CLUTCH (See Fig. 25) The electric clutch should provide years of service. The clutch has a built-in br ake that stops the pulle y within 5 seconds. Eventually , the inter nal brak e will wear which ma y cause the mower b lades to not engage , or , to not stop as required.

25 SER VICE AND ADJUSTMENTS REPLA CING B A TTER Y (See Fig. 30) W ARNING: Do not short battery ter- mi nals by allo wing a wrench or an y other object to contact both terminals at the same time. Bef ore connecting battery , remove metal bracelets, wristwatch bands, rings, etc.
26 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your tr actor f or storage at the end of the season or if the tractor will not be used f or 30 da ys or more. W ARNING: Ne ver store the trac tor with gas o line in the tank inside a building where fumes may reac h an open fl ame or spark.
27 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Will not start 1. Out of fuel. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Engine not “CHOKED” properly . 2. See “T O ST ART ENGINE” in Operation section. 3. Engine fl ooded. 3. W ait sev eral min utes before attempting to start. 4. Bad spark plug.
28 TR OUBLESHOO TING POINTS Engine continues to run 1. Faulty oper ator-safety presence control system. 1. Chec k wiring, switches and connections. If not when operator leaves seat corrected, contact an authorized service center/ with attachment clutc h department.
