Owner’s Manual: EFX Safety Features 9 Using the Stationary Handrail T o maintain your balance, always gr asp the stationary handrail when you step on or of f of the foot pedals, and when you use the keypad.
Owner’s Manual: Heart Rate Features 10 Heart Rate F eatures Heart rate and SmartRate ® features are available when the heart rate receiver is installed in the display console and you wear a chest strap. W hen a heart beat is detected, th e heart rate display shows your heart r ate and the SmartRate LE D pulses and indicates your target zone.

CALOR I E S —displays the estimated cumulative numbe r of calories burned. T he calorie calculation is derived from the pedaling speed, resistance level, and your weight.

W hen the strides per minute drops bel ow 20, the E FX reverts to pause mode. Important: The display may not change as quic kly as your stride.

As you raise and lower the incline, lights appear and indicate the musc le groups that are being worked.

Owner’s Manual: Display Console 18 CROSS RAMP ▲ ▼ (E F X5.23): Press and hold the CR O S SRAM P arrows to increase or decrease the ramp incline from 1 to 20. Changes to the ramp incline are not immediate. It takes time for the lift to reach the target incline shown on the display .

Owner’s Manual: Workout Options 23 Selecting a User I D Choosing a user I D enables the E FX to identify you and track your cumulative workout statistics. It also lets you personalize your workout sessi on and stores information about your preferred program, workout time, we ight, an d age.

Review the progr am label on the display console to determine the ascent and descent levels of the progr am. Owner’s Manual: Programs 32 Interval (I NT n) Program The Interv al Program is among the best for conditioning your cardiovascular system. Eac h program r aises and lowers your level of exertion repeatedly for a specified period of time.
Owner’s Manual: Programs 33 Random (RAN D) Program Every time the Random Program is selected, a different program profile appears. The 1- minute columns that appe ar in the profile maintain a set incline or resi stance. T o override the settings, use the arrow keys.
Owner’s Manual: Programs 34 For the i deal weight loss range, your heart r ate should be between 55% and 7 0% of your maximum aerobic heart rate. If you wear the c hest strap, you can use SmartRate as a visual cue. • Set a comfortable stride r ate and then adjust the resistance and r amp incline.
Owner’s Manual: Programs 35 Guidelines Before selecting the Fitness T est, read the following guidelines: • Sit and rest for at least five minutes prior to taking the test to bring your heart rate to a resting state. • The fi tness score is affected by your weight, age, and gender .
Owner’s Manual: Programs 36 Using the Fitness T est Maintain a const ant stride rate, but let the progr am adjust the resistan ce for you. Duri ng the w arm-u p period the resistance is set at level 3. At the beginning of the 5-minute Fitness T est, the resist ance automatically raises to level 9.

Owner’s Manual: Programs 38 Heart Rate Control (H RC) Program The Heart Rate Control Program lets you set a target for your heart rate. The program adjusts the resistance to maintain your heart rate within two beats per minute of the target heart rate while you ex ercise.
Owner’s Manual: Programs 39 Using the H RC Program W hen you access the H R C Progr am, the following occurs: • The EFX automatically adjusts the res istance to keep your heart rate at the selected target. Pressing the R E S IST ANC E arrow keys no longer affects the resistance applied to your stride, but does ch ange the target heart rate.

Attach the lower portion of both st a bilizers to the base frame using eight hex head screws (D) and eight washers (E).

Connect the power cord. C AU TION: Use the supplied power cord. Do not r emove or otherwise bypass the 3 -prong plug with an adapter in order to use a non-grounded outlet. Do not p lug the E FX into a power transformer in an attempt to adjust the voltage requirements.
