3 1. The computer indicates “Keyboard error” during start-up or booting Possible Causes and Solutions: 1.1 The keyboard is not plugge d properly. Check if the keyboard cable is securely pl ugged into the keyboard PS/2 port (USB or RS232 if applicable) .
4 2.3 Th ere was an erro r in the c h ecksu m. Please see “How to reset the preh keyboards” on page 7 and test. 3. The keyboard is connected to a Scanner but it is not detected by the computer during start-up Possible Causes and Solutions: 3.1 Data transmission conflict between keyboard an d Scan ner.
5 Solution 3: Please see “How to turn off the unnecessary modules” on page 18 and follow the instructions. Restart the computer and test. 4. The keyboard does not respond, and there is no output. Possible Causes and Solutions: 4.1 Keyboard pad is not responding.
6 6. The MSR cannot be read with my software Possible causes and solutions: 6.1 MSR head is not working properly. Open NotePad; Use a c ard with a magnetic st ripe on the back su ch as cr edit card or debit card. Swipe the card and see on Notepad if there is an output.
7 8. HOW TO RESET PREH KEYBOARDS Simply resetting the keyboard may solve the majority of the most common problems that a user can have. If a fault has occurred during the transmissi on of the keyboard assignment table or the contents of the EEPROM has been modifi ed, there will be an erro r in the c heck sum.

9 9. HOW TO CHANGE THE O UTPU T SPEED O F THE KEYBOARD For chan ging the outp ut spe ed of the keyboard it will be neces sary to us e one of our programming tools: The winprogrammer or the DOS programmer.
10 5. Go to File> UpdateKeyboard , Select your interface (USB, AT for PS/2 or Serial RS232) and c lick ok to d ownload the file into the keyboar d. Wait until the proc ess is complete d.

13 10. HOW TO CH A NGE TH E SETTINGS OF THE M S R For chan ging the MSR settings, it will be neces sary to us e one of our pr ogramming tools: The winprogr ammer or the DOS progr ammer. OPOS is a stand ard in the point of sale indu stry. It is require d that your MSR h ave these s ettings if yo u are using so ftware that u ses the OPOS standar d.

16 11. HOW TO REMO VE ONLIN E PROGRAMMING Online programming is an alternati v e method to program a Preh Keyboard. It i s recommended not to have access to online programming unl ess i s necessary and intended to be.
17 2. Go to the File menu and select “ Read keytable ”. This command will read all data and settings that are inside the keyboard. Please, make sure that the keyboard is con nected . A status bar will sho w you when th e readin g of the keyboard has been completed as shown in figure 17.
18 5. Click OK, and then go to File>WriteKeytable . Wait until pr ogramming is completed. 6. Reset the keyboard..
19 12. HOW TO D EACTIVATE THE BIO S KEYBOARD INITIALIZATION DURING POST There are 2 options: 1. Using the BIOS deactivate the option for checki ng keyboard duri ng initialization. 2. Another option is for user s of Win2000 and WinX P. It is p ossible to deac tivate this optio n by cre ating 2 regist ers.
20 13. HOW TO TURN OFF TH E UNNECESSARY M ODULE S The keyboard has extra options that might not be used by the user, or initializations . WINPROGRAMMER 1. In order to deactivate or activate modules with the winprogrammer you need to have an MWF fi le or create a new file since the w i nprogrammer cannot read the program from the keyboard.

22 3. Go to File>Ed it>Mod ules. Unc heck Init and send LED data , and all the modules ( Autoinput ) that are not used, s uch as MSR, Keylock etc.
