4 21. When using iFIT.com CDs and videos, an e lectronic “chirping” sound will alert you when the speed of the treadmill is about to c hange. Always listen for the “chirp” and be prepared for speed changes. In some in- s tances, the speed may change before the personal trainer describes the change.
5 Thank you for selecting the revolutionary PROFORM ® CROSS TRAINER VX treadmill. The CROSS TRAINER VX treadmill combines advanced technology with innov- a tive design to help you get the most from your exercise p rogram in the convenience and privacy of your home.
6 1. Make sure that the power cord is not plugged in. With the help of a second person, carefully tip the treadmill onto its left side. Partially fold the Frame (12) so that the treadmill will be more stable. Do not fully fold the treadmill until it is completely assembled.
7 2. Identify the Right Upright (10). Note: The Left Upright (9) has the Latch Housing (77, see step 3) attached to it. Have a second person hold the Right Upright (10) near the B ase (82) as s hown. Orient the Right Upright so that it is angled forward (see step 3).
8 6. Have a second person hold the Console (78) near the Right Upright (10). Attach the ground wire from the Console to the Right Upright with the 1/2” Silver Screw (107) . Note: There may be two small holes in the Right Upright. Be sure to attach the ground wire to the lower hole and not to the higher hole.
9 10. Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill. Note: Extra hardware may be included. Keep the included allen wrench in a secure place. The allen wrench is used to adjust the walking belt (see page 24). To protect the floor or carpet, place a mat under the treadmill.
10 THE PRE-LUBRICATED WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with high- performance lubricant. IMPORTANT: Never apply sil- i cone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking platform. Such substances will deteriorate the walking belt and cause excessive wear.
1 1 FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE The console offers a selection of features designed to help you get the most from your exercise. When the manual mode of the console is selected, the speed and incline of the treadmill can be changed with the touch of a button.
HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER Plug in the power cord (see page 10). Stand on the foot rails of the treadmill. Find the clip at- tached to the key, and slide the clip securely onto the waistband of your clothes. Next, in- sert the key into the console. After a moment, the dis- plays will light.
13 Distance display —This display shows the dis- t ance that you have walked or run. Speed display —This display shows the speed of the walking belt. Note: The console can show speed and dis- tance in either miles or kilometers. The letters “MPH” or “KPH” will ap- pear in the Speed display to show which unit of measurement is selected.
14 H OW TO USE A SPEED PROGRAM I nsert the key fully into the console. S ee HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER on page 12. S elect a speed program. When the key is in- serted, the manual mode will be selec ted. To select a speed pro- gram, press the Speed Programs button re- peatedly until one of the four speed program indi- cators lights.
15 HOW TO CONNECT THE TREADMILL TO YOUR CD PLAYER, VCR, OR COMPUTER To use iFIT.com CDs , the treadmill must be connected t o your portable CD player, portable stereo, home s tereo, or computer with CD player. See pages 15 and 16 for connecting instructions.
16 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR HOME STEREO N ote: If your stereo has an unused LINE OUT jack, see instruction A below. If the LINE OUT jack is b eing used, see instruction B. A. Plug one end of the audio cable into the jack on the front of the treadmill near the power cord.
17 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR VCR N ote: If your VCR has an unused AUDIO OUT jack, see instruction A below. If the AUDIO OUT jack is b eing used, see instruction B. If you have a TV with a built-in VCR, see instruction B. If your VCR is connected to your home stereo, see HOW TO CONNECT YOUR HOME STEREO on page 16.
HOW TO USE IFIT.COM CD AND VIDEO PROGRAMS To use iFIT.com CDs or videocassettes, the treadmill m ust be connected to your portable CD player, portable s tereo, home stereo, computer with CD player, or VCR. See HOW TO CONNECT THE TREADMILL TO YOUR C D PLAYER, VCR, OR COMPUTER on pag es 15 to 17.
19 HOW TO USE PROGRAMS DIRECTLY FROM OUR WEB SITE Our Web site at www.iFIT.com allows you to access programs directly from the internet. See w ww.i FIT.c om for details. Note: Programs will control only the speed of your treadmill. To use programs from our Web site, the treadmill must be connected to your home computer.
20 THE INFORMATION MODE T he console features an information mode that keeps track of the total number of hours that the treadmill has b een operated and the total number of miles that the walking belt has moved. The information mode also al- lows you to switch the console from miles per hour to kilometers per hour.
21 HOW T O FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL FOR STORAGE Before folding the treadmill, adjust the incline to the lowest position. If this is not done, the treadmill may be p ermanently damaged. Next, unplug the power cord. CAUTION: You must be able to safely lift 20 kg (45 lbs.
22 HOW TO LOWER THE TREADMILL FOR USE 1 . Hold the upper end of the treadmill with your right hand as shown. Using your left hand, pull the latch knob to the l eft and hold it. Pivot the treadmill down until the frame is past the pin. Slowly release the latch knob.
23 TROUBLESHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the steps below. Find the symptom that applies, and follow the steps listed. If further assistance is needed, please call the toll-free telephone number on the f ront cover of this manual.
24 PROBLEM: The walking belt slows when walked on S OLUTION: a . Use only a single-outlet surge suppressor that meets all of the specifications described on page 10. b . If the walking belt is overtightened, treadmill perfor- mance may decrease and the walking belt may be- come damaged.
25 The following guidelines will help you to plan your ex- ercise program. For more detailed exercise informa- tion, obtain a reputable book or consult your physician. EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system, the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity.
26 SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1 . Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible.
