3 BEFORE YOU BEGIN Thank you for selecting the new PROFORM ® 450 HR low-impact elliptical exerciser . The 450 HR is an incredibly smooth exerciser that moves your feet in a natural elliptical path, minimizing the impact on your knees and ankles. Welcome to a whole new world of natural, elliptical-motion exercise.
Assembly requires two persons. Place all parts of the elliptical exerciser in a cleared area and remove the packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed. Assembly requires a phillips screwdriver , an adjustable wrench , and a rubber mallet .
5 1. Identify the Front Stabilizer (2), which has T ransport Wheels (29) attached to it. Attach the Front Stabilizer to the Frame (1) with two M8 x 3 1/2" Carriage Bolts (51), two M8 Arc W ashers (54), and two M8 Cap Nuts (24). 2. With the help of another person, raise the Frame (1) up onto its front end.
6 5. While another person holds the Console (22) near the top of the Upright (3), connect the console wire to the Upper Wire (75). Attach the Console (22) to the Upright (3) with four Console Screws (68). Be careful to avoid pinch- ing the wires. 5 22 75 3 68 Console Wire 22 Batteries Battery Cover 4 4.
7 7. Slide a Pedal T ube Cover (78) onto the Right Handlebar Leg (71). Apply a thin film of the included grease to the parts shown at the right. Next, attach the Right Pedal T ube (64) to the Right Handlebar Leg (71) with an M6 x 2 1/2" Button Shoulder Bolt (40), an M6 W asher (55), and an M6 Nylon Locknut (56).
8 10 73 49 49 49 72 6 49 10. Attach a Right Rear Pivot Cover (72) and a Right Front Pivot Cover (73) around the right Handlebar (6) and the Right Handlebar Leg (71) with six M4 x 1/2" Screws (49). Repeat this step for the left Handlebar (6) and the Left Handlebar Leg (5).
9 HOW T O USE THE ELLIPTICAL EXERCISER HOW TO MOVE THE ELLIPTICAL EXERCISER Due to the size and weight of the elliptical exercis- er , moving it requires two persons. Stand in front of the elliptical exerciser , hold the upright, and place one foot against one of the transport wheels.
10 FEA TURES OF THE CONSOLE The console offers a selection features designed to make your workouts more effective. When you use the manual mode of the console, you can change the resistance of the pedals with the touch of a button. As you exercise, the console will provide continuous exer- cise feedback.
11 HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE T urn on the console. T o turn on the console, press any button or begin pedaling. The display will light and the console will be ready for use. Select the manual mode. Each time you turn on the console, the manual mode will be selected.
12 HOW TO USE A SMART PROGRAM T urn on the console. T o turn on the console, press any button or begin pedaling. The display will light and the console will be ready for use. Select a smart program. T o select a smart program, press one of the four Smart Programs buttons.
13 Inspect and properly tighten all parts of the elliptical exerciser regularly . Replace any worn parts immedi- ately . The elliptical exerciser can be wiped clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent.
14 The following guidelines will help you to plan your exercise program. Remember that proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential for successful results. EXERCISE INTENSITY Whether your goal is to burn fat or to strengthen your cardiovascular system, the key to achieving the desired results is to exercise with the proper intensity .
15 SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1. T oe T ouch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible.
