2 PowerScan™ RF Scanner Installi n g the Battery Orient the battery as shown in F igure 1, then push it into the scanner until it snaps in place. T o remove the battery , push in on the release tabs on both sides of the battery’s base and pull it straight out of the scanner .
User’ s Guide 3 V e rifying Scanner Operation Once a char ged battery has been in s talled in the sca n ner , scan the sample bar codes in the back o f this manual that correspond t o the symbologies your scanner is programmed to rea d. If unsure how to do this, see the section on How to Scan in this ma nua l.
4 PowerScan™ RF Scanner 2. Consult your Host T erminal manual to determine the requir ed communication p arameters for the Ho s t T erminal (e.g., baud ra te, parity , etc.) and, if necessary , modify the pr o- grammed parameters to be compatib le with those requir e- ments.

8 PowerScan™ RF Scanner Rapid flash ing indicates that charging is taking pla ce. Rapid charging occurs when the battery temperature is between 10°C (50°F) and 46°C (1 15°F), and/ or voltage of the battery is between 2.0 an d 3.2V . Charge time is less than 4.
User’ s Guide 9 Four Station Charger If you have a Four Station Char ger , batteries are inserted for ch ar ging as shown in Figure 5. A 9 0% rapid char ge can be achieved in only two hours when using this optional accessory , half the tim e than when a Base Station is used f o r charging.
10 PowerScan™ RF Scanner How to S ca n Figure 6 illustrates som e tips to help get the best sca nn in g results: 1. The scanner must be pointed at a slight angle to the bar code. Do not ho l d the scanner perpendicular to the bar code. 2. The laser beam must cr oss the entire bar code.
User’ s Guide 11 Depth of Field There are curre ntly four differ ent range models for the scanner . Depending upon the model ty pe of your scanner , you’ll need to hold the unit at a given distance fr om the bar code to achieve o ptimum scanning r esul ts.
