5 IN STALLATI ON SELECTI NG A LOCATION You can pl a c e the phone’s base on a desk top or table, or mount i t on a wall. Select a location that is: • near an A C outlet • near a tele phone lin e.

7 3. Insert the supplie d A C adapter ’s barrel plug into t he DC I N 9V jac k on the back of the b ase. 4. Route t he adapt er’s cord through the left side of the strain relief slot on top of the base and through the left slots at the bottom of the base.
8 2. Plug one end of the supplied long modular cord i nt o t he TEL LINE jack o n the back of the bas e. 3. Route the m odular cord through the ri ght slots on the bottom of the base. 4. Insert the supplie d A C adapter ’s barrel plug into t he DC I N 9V jac k on the back of the base.

10 Notes: • I f the CHARGE indicator does not light when you place the handset on the base, be sure the battery pack and AC adapter are correctly and securely connec ted. Also, check t he c h arging c ontacts on the hand s e t and the base. If t he co nt a cts ar e di rt y or t arn is hed , clean them with a penc il eraser .
11 SETTI NG T HE DIALING MO DE Set DIAL MODE on the back of the base for the type of service you have. If you are not sure wh ich type you have, do thi s t es t. 1. Set DIAL MODE to T . 2. Lift the handset and listen f or a dial tone. 3. Press any number other than 0 .
12 OPE RATION MAKING AN D RECEIVING CALLS To make o r ans wer a cal l, lift the han d- set. Or, if the handset is not in place on the ba s e , press TA L K . T he TALK/ BATT LO W i nd icator on the handset and the IN US E indicator on the base ligh t.
13 Notes: • The redial m emory holds up to 32 digits, so you can redial lon g- distance as well as local numbers. • The redi al m e mory also holds pause entries. See “Entering a Pause ” on P age 15. • T he redial memory d oes not store a flash entr y or any digi t s y ou press a f t er FLASH (see “Using F l ash” ).
14 PAGING To page t he person who has the hand- set or to locate the handset when the phone is not in u se, hold down PA G E on the base for at least 2 second s . The handset b eeps for 1 m inute. T o s top it from bee pi ng soon er, pres s TA L K on the handset twice.
15 Notes: • Each TO NE / or REDI AL/ P entry uses one digit o f m emory . • If you try to enter more than 16 digits, the ph one beeps 5 t imes and exits the programming mode.
16 Ch ain-D ialing S ervice Numbers For quick recall of numb ers for special services (such as alternate long d is- tance or bank by phone), store ea c h group of numbers i n its own mem ory location. To use the stored s peci a l service infor- mation, dial the service’s main numb er first.
17 T ROUBLES HOO TING We do not expect you to h av e any problem s with y our phone, but if you d o, the fol- lowing sugg est ions might help. Problem Sugg estion Low volume or u nusual sounds. Someon e has pic ked up another phone on the same li ne. H a n g up the other phone.
18 If you still have probl em s, disco nnect the phone. If o t her phon es on t he s a me line work prop erl y, th e fault is i n this phon e or its i n s tallation. If you cannot find the prob- lem, tak e your phone to your lo c al RadioShack store for assist ance.

20 REPLACING THE BATTERY PACK If y ou f ol low t he instruction s in “Co n- necting and Charg i ng the Battery Pack” on Page 9, t h e battery pack should last about one ye ar.
