12 CAMCORDER CO NNECTIONS Your VCR ha s jacks on it s front panel that let you easily connect a cam corder or other video source. Y ou can also connect a c amcorder t o the R-AUDI O-L I N 1/V IDEO I N 1 ja ck s o n th e b ac k o f the VCR.
13 VCR SET UP SETTI NG THE VCR’S OU TPUT CHANNEL SWITCH If you connect ed the VCR ’s VH F/ U H F OU T TO TV term inal to a TV or another V CR, s et 3- CH-4 on the back of the VCR to 3 or 4 , whichever i s not an active c hannel in your a rea. When V CR ap pears, the VCR s ends t he signal from the video source connect ed to its IN FR OM ANT .
14 POSITI O NING THE VCR AN D CABLE BOX O R SATELLITE RECEIVER Your VCR is d esigned to send rem ote control signals for m any types o f cable boxes or direct - to -h ome satell ite recei vers. To tr ansmit t hese signals, the VCR bounc es the signals of f of the wall facing it to th e cable box or dire ct-to-home satellite receiver.
15 • If you con nected a c abl e box or a direct- to-home satellite receiver to the V CR then connect ed the VCR to a TV , select CABL E/ DSS BOX VCR TV .

18 Note: Usi ng this set up method do es not store any chan nel in the VCR ’s m emory. Ins tead, you select c hann els using the cable box. See “Using t he VCR’ s Remote Control wi th Your TV and Cable Box or Satellite Receiver” on Page 22 f or how t o use the VCR ’s remo te co n- trol to cha nge the c hannels o n t he c able box .
19 Instead, you see: Man ua l ly Se tt in g th e Cl oc k Follow these s teps t o manual ly set the clock if EDS is not available in your area, if you do not want the V CR to search for an EDS signal, or if you skipped tuner programm ing. Notes: • The clock m ust be acc urately set for prop er automatic time r recording.
20 When th e information is correct and the time reac hes the minute y ou set in S tep 6, press MENU/ACTION twice. The time you set appears and the clock starts running. Note: Seconds begin count ing from 00 when you press MENU/A CTION the second ti me.
21 7. When t he VCR finishes sc anning and st or- ing channels, it searches for an ED S signal and shows: It can take u p to 1 0 m in u tes for the VC R to set t h e cl o ck u sing the EDS signal. If the VCR fi nds a si gnal, it autom ati cally s ets i ts clock to the correct time, and AU TO CL OCK SET COMP LE TED app ears.
22 Cha n gin g t he On- Sc r ee n La ng ua g e Follow these steps to c h ange the on-screen programming langua ge. 1. P ress MENU/ACTION to displa y the main menu. 2. Repeat edl y press or to h ighlight the fifth menu selection, then press . (The title of the fifth menu selection differs depending on the l anguage currently sele cted.

24 2. Whil e holding down TV , enter the code number for your TV using the num ber but- ton s. Or , w hile h old in g dow n DSS/ CABLE enter the code number for you r cabl e box or direct-to-hom e satellite rec eiver . Precede a sin gle-digit code num ber with a 0 — f or example, 01, 02, and so on.
25 RESETTI NG THE VCR’ S MEM ORY You can erase all s ettings (inclu ding the time, local channels, and progra mmed ev ents) at any tim e. Eject any loaded t ape, then hold down PLA Y and CHANNEL s on the VCR for about 5 seconds until it turns itself off.
26 OPE R ATION WA T C H I N G T V Usin g the TV ’ s T u ner To watch a broadcast using t he TV’s tuner, turn off the VCR or repe atedly press TV/VCR until VCR disa ppears. Note: If you are usi ng a TV/mon it o r connected to th e VC R ’ s R-AUDIO-L/VI DEO OUT jacks, be sure to s et t he TV /moni tor to its TV m ode.

29 To us e visua l search so you can see t he pic- ture, be sure V CR appears, then b egin tape playback. P ress FA S T - F t o search fo rward or REW to search in reverse. Press PLA Y to r e tu rn to normal playback. During visual search, the sound is m uted and the picture quality is lower than durin g no rmal playback.
30 2. When you w ant to return t o the sel ected location, stop the tape, then press C/A SKIP/ZERO . The tape rewin ds or fast - forwards and a utomatically st ops wh en it reaches 0: 00:0 0 . Notes: • If you press REW to rewind the tape past 0:00 :0 0 , th e time appe ars with a m inus (–) sign.

32 SKIPPING COMMERCIA LS Your VCR’s Co mmercial A dvance fe a tu re lets you qu ickly skip over c o mmercials reco rd- ed onto a tape while you v iew it, wit hout having to continually press FA S T - F or C/A SKIP/ZERO .
33 • The VCR can store up to ei g ht timer recording settings and 45 commerc ial loca- tions in memory at one time. When the memory becom es full, the re maining com- mercials are not marked. • The Commercial Advance feature setting returns to OF F i f t h er e is a po we r f a i lu r e.
34 SKIPPING / SELECTING PREVIEWS Your VCR’s M ovie Adv ance feature le ts you skip the previews at the beginning of many pur- chased or rented mo vies, or select a s pecific preview to wat ch. Note: Mov ie Adv anc e w orks only wi th tapes re cor d ed in t he S P spee d th at h ave the er a s e - protec tion tab removed.

38 RECORDING There are four ways to rec ord us ing your V CR: • Imm ediate recordi ng — to record a broad- cast as you watch it or record on e program on the VCR whil e you watch anot her on the T V . • V CR P lus+ reco rding — to rec ord a broa d- cast us ing the V CR Plus+ feature.
39 SELECTI NG THE SIGNAL TO RECORD You can select the s igna l to record — from the IN FROM ANT . jack o r an audi o/video source — in either o f these ways. • R epeatedl y press INPUT until the desired input source app ears — LI NE 1 or LINE 2 for an audio/video source, or a channel number for broadcast signals.
40 • T o display the remai ning re c ordi ng t i me, pre ss D ISP/E NT duri ng a t i m ed r ecord ing. • T o temp orarily stop the tape d uring a recording, press P AUSE . Pr e ss P AUSE again to resume recording. I f you leave the VCR paused for a bout 5 m inutes, the VCR automa tically stops.
41 2. For each s tation, c ompare the station’s guide channel num ber with the number you sel ect on the TV , cable box, or VCR to tune to t he stat ion. If th e numbers matc h, cross that station of f of the list. 3. If a tape is p laying, press STOP .
42 4. P ress PROG. Y ou see: Note: I f th e c loc k i s n o t se t, P LEA SE SE T CLOC K BEFO RE PRO GRA MM IN G ap- pears, then the clock -setting screen a p- pears. Set t h e clock as described in “Man- ually Setting the Clock” on Page 19, then continue with Step 5.
43 Ch ecking/Ch angin g VCR Plu s+ Prog ra ms 1. Turn on t he TV and s et it to the s ame c han- nel as 3-CH-4 on t he back of the VCR. Note: If you are using a TV/m onitor that i s connected t o th e VCR’s R-AUDIO-L/VIDEO OUT jacks, set th e TV/moni tor to its vi deo mode.
44 Set tin g a Tim er Note: If you use a TV/monitor that is con nected to the VCR’s R-AUDIO-L/VIDEO OUT jacks, set the TV/monitor to i ts video mode an d skip Steps 2 and 3. 1. Turn on the V CR and t he TV . 2. S et the TV to the s ame c hannel as 3-CH-4 on the back of the VCR.
45 Press to store your selection. 10. Repeat edly press or to select the start hour . When the correct hou r a ppears, press . Then repea tedly press or to select the minute a nd p ress . 1 1. R epeat Step 9 to set the stop time. 12. Repeat edly press or to select the channel.
46 4. Repeat edly pres s or to select TIME R PROG RAM , then pres s . The first four timer settings appear . 5. Repeat edly press or t o select the setting you wan t to cha nge, then press . 6. Fol low Steps 8–1 3 under “Setting a T imer” on Page 44 to correct the selected setting.
47 AUDIO-ONLY RECORDING Because of the superio r quality of VHS Hi-Fi audio reco rdings, you migh t want to use your VCR as an audio-o nly recorder. You can also make live recordings by connecting a pre- amplifier or mixer to the VCR’ s R-AU DIO-L IN 1 or A V 2 L-AUDIO IN-R j acks.
