IMPORTANT CALLER ID INFORMATION To use the phone's Caller ID and Call Wait- ing with Caller ID features, you must be in an area where those services are available and you must subscribe to those services through your local phon e company.

5 1 1 . Slots and openings in the cabine t and the back or bottom are provided fo r ve n- tilation. T o protect it from overheating, these openings must not be blocked or covered. The openings should never b e blocked by pla cing the product on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface.
6 Features 3. Do not open or mutilate the battery pack. Released electrolyte is corrosive and may cause damage to the eyes or skin. It may be toxic if swallowed. 4. Exercise care in handling the battery pack in order not to short it with conduct- ing materials such as rings, bracelets, and keys.
7 Installation Headset Jack — lets you connect an optio n- al headset (available from yo ur local Ra- dioShack store) for hands-free convenience. Facedown or Faceup Handset Charging — you can place the handset on the ba se face down or face up (to show the Caller ID display, for example).
8 Installation • Always connect the AC adapter to the phone before you connect it to AC power . When you finish, disco nnect the adapter from AC power before you dis- connect it from the phone. Note: Your telephone connects dire ctly to a modular telephone li ne jack.
9 Installation Note: To mount the phone directly on a wa ll, you need two screws (not sup plied) with heads that fit into the keyhole slots on the bottom of the base. Follow the steps u nder “On a Wall Plate or Wall” on Page 8, then apply th ese additional instructions.
10 Installation return the handset to the base for about 5 seconds. • Using a pencil eraser , clean the charg- ing contacts on the handset an d base about once a month. • If the battery pack becomes weak during a call, the handset beeps eve ry 3 sec- onds and Low Battery flashes.
11 Installation A QUICK LOOK AT THE HANDSET Note: The handset window ha s a plastic film on it to protect it during sh ipment. Carefully peel off the film before using your phone for the first time . SETTING THE DIALING MODE Set DIAL MODE on the b ack of the base for the type of service you have.
12 Installation not press the access code numb er either . If the dial tone stops , you have touch- tone service. Leave DIAL MODE set to T . If the dial tone continues , you have pulse service. Set DIAL MODE to P (pulse). SETTING THE RINGER TO N E / VO L U M E You can select one of four different ringer tone/volume settings on the handset.
13 Operation STORING Y OUR AREA CODE You can store your local area code in the phone’s Caller ID record so it does not sho w the area code if the received call is from yo ur local area. If for some reason you ne ed to dial the area code (or store it in the memory), you can add it afterwards.
14 Operation Once you set the volume level, the setting is maintained even after you han g up the phone. Note: When you press VOL/CID 8 8 8 8 while the volume is maximum or VOL/CID 9 9 9 9 while the volume is low, the setting d oes not chang e and the phone beeps three times.
15 Operation plays. Th en press TA L K and the phone dia ls the number. To dial the last number dialed using the base, press SPEAKER then REDIAL . Notes: • The redial memory fo r each keyp ad is separate. Y ou cannot redi al a number you dialed on the handset’s keypad using REDIAL on the base’s keypad, and vice versa.
16 Operation T ransferring a Call Between the Handset and Base You can use the phone’s intercom feature to transfer a call between the handset and the base. To transfer a call from the handset to the base, press INTCM . The ca ll is placed on hold, and Paging Base and Hold appear.
17 Operation 6. Press SELECT/CHANNEL . Store Num- ber appears. 7. Enter the phone number and any tone or pause entries (see “Usin g T one Services on a Pulse Line” o n Page 15 and “Enter- ing a Pause” on Pag e 18). 8. Press SELECT/CHANNEL . The phone beeps and <Memory nn Stored> appears (nn is the memory location number you selected).
18 Operation Entering a Pause In some telephone systems, you must di al an access code (9, for example) and wait for a second dial tone before you can dial an out- side number. You can store the access cod e with the phone number. However, you should also store a pause after the access code to allow the outside line time to con- nect.
19 Operation Notes: • Connecting a headset disconnects th e handset’s earpiece and microphone. • VOL/CID 8 8 8 8 or 9 9 9 9 on the handset also controls the connected headset’s vol- ume. • If you place the handset on the base to recharge it while the headset is co n- nected, be sure the handset seats p rop- erly .
20 Operation Adding/Deleting the Area Code When the area code of the received call is the same as the one you stored (see “Storing Your Area Code” on Page 13), the call er ID record does not show the area code. If it is different, the record shows the area code.
21 Operation Follow these steps to delete all Calle r ID records. 1. Press CAL L ID so the record tota ls appear . 2. Press DEL . Delete All? and Yes / No appear with the cursor pointing to No . 3. Press VOL/CID 8 8 8 8 to move the cursor to Yes , then press SELECT/CHANNEL or DEL .
22 Troubleshooting Note: You can disp lay the programmed ser- vice number of each calling feature. At step 2 above, press 7 7 7 7 to see the number and 6 6 6 6 to return the list of servi ces.
23 Troubleshooting If you still have problems, discon nect the phone. If other phones on the sa me line work proper- ly, the fault is in th is phone or its in stallation. If you cannot fi nd the problem, take the p hone to your local RadioShack store for assistance.
