5 POWE R SOURCES You can op erate the S CR-99 us ing the suppl ied AC power cord o r i nt e r- nal b attery po wer. USING AC POWE R You can power t he SC R-99 fr o m standard AC p ower using the sup- plied AC pow er cord. Con nect the cord to ~A C IN on the back of the SCR-99 and a standard AC outlet.
6 Cautions: • Always dispose of the old b atter- ies promptly and properly. • Never leave dead, old, or weak batteries in t he SCR-99. T hey can leak chemicals and corrod e or dama ge e lectronic circuits.
7 USING EARPHONES For private listening, you can con- nect a pai r of earphones (n ot sup- plied) with a 1 /8-inch plug. Your local Radio Shac k store ca r ries a wide se- lection of earphones. Insert the e arphones’ 1 /8 -i nc h pl u g into the PHONE S j ac k on t he side of the SCR-99.
8 RADIO OPERATION Warning : To protect your hearing, set VOL UME MI N/MA X to its lo west set- ting b efore you turn on the ra dio. 1. Set F UNCT ION to RADIO to turn on the rad io. 2. Se t BAND to AM, FM, or FM STEREO. 3. Rotate the t un ing cont rol u ntil you h ear the desired station.

11 Recording from the Radi o 1. Lo ad a blank casset te t a pe or one y ou want t o record over in to the casse tte compartm ent. 2. Set TAPE/RADI O to R ADIO. 3. Set BAND to the desired band. 4. Adjust T UNING to the station you want to record. 5. Press RE CORD to b egin record- ing.
12 Preventing A cciden tal Eras ure Cassette tapes have two erase-pro- tection tabs, one for each s ide. When a tab is in place, you can record o n that side. To protect a reco rding from being ac- cidentally recorded ov er or erased, use a screwdriver to rem ove one or both of t he c assette tape’ s erase- protection t abs.
13 2. Remove the b atteries or discon nect the A C power sourc e. 3. Open the cassette compartment cover. 4. Press and hold down the erase-prot ection tab sensor, then press RECO RD to expose the record/playbac k and erase heads.
