8 Installation ˆ Installation MOUNTING THE PHONE You can place the telephone’s base on a desk or table, mount it on a standard wall plate, or directly on a wall.
9 Installation 4. Route the adapter ’s cord through the strain relief slot on the bottom of the base. 5. Plug the adapter into a standard AC out- let.
10 Installation 3. Align the bracket’s keyhole slots with the mounting screws and slide the base downward to secure it. CONNECTING AND CHARGING THE BATTERY PACK The telephone comes wi th a rechargeabl e nickel-cadmium battery pack instal led in the handset, but not connected.
11 Installation • If the battery pack is completely dis- charged or the base loses power while the handset is away from it, place the handset on the base to reset the secu- rity access-protection code. If it was the handset that lost power , recharge the battery pack.
12 Installation phones on the same lin e (and the tele- phone’s handset if it is away from the b ase) still ring when there is an incoming call. To turn on th e base’s ringer, set RINGER to ON .
13 Operation ˆ Operation MAKING AND RECEIVING CALLS To make a call, lift th e handset and press TA L K . The TALK/BATT indicator on the handset and the CHARGE/IN USE indicator on the base light. When you hear a dial to ne, dial the numb er. To answer a call, simply lift the handset.
14 Operation USING BOTH THE HANDSET AND SPEAKERPHONE If someone else is using the speakerphone, press TA L K on the handset to join the co n- versation. If someone else is using the hand- set, press SPEAKER on the base to join the conversation. During the call, one person can han g up and let the call continue at the other keypad.
15 Operation MEMORY DIALING The phone can store up to 1 0 numbers that you can dial by entering a memory location number (0–9). Storing a Number in Memory Note: An error tone sounds an d the phone exits the storing process if you wait more than 20 seconds between each key press.
16 Answering System Operation T esting Stored Emergency Num- bers If you store an emergency service’s numb er (police department, fire dep artment, ambu- lance) and you choose to test the stored number, make the test call during the late evening or early mo rning hours to avoid pe ak demand periods.
17 Answering System Operation The system switches to the other message and plays it. RECORDING/DELETING AN OUTGOING MESSAGE To record your outgoing messag e (up to 30 seconds long), hold dow n OGM on the base until the answering system beeps and - - appears.
18 Answering System Operation RECORDING A MEMO A memo is a message you can record at the answering system for yourself or others i n your home or office for up to 10 minutes. The system stores memos as incoming mess ag- es (see “Playing Messages”).
19 Answering System Operation SETTING THE REMOTE OPERATION PIN The answering system’s two-digit remote op- eration PIN (personal identification number) prevents unauthorized remote access to your messages. The PIN is preset to 80. Fo l- low these steps to ch ange the PIN to a ny number from 00 to 9 9.
20 Answering System Operation 3. If the PIN is correct, the system announces the day and time , then it announces the number of n ew and old messages. The system plays all ne w messages then beeps about once every two seconds to let you know it is ready to accept remo te commands.
21 Troubleshooting ˆ T roubleshooting We do not expect you to have any problems with your telephone, b ut if you do, these sugges- tions might help. Problem Suggestion Low volume or unusual sounds. Someone has picked up another phone on the same line.
22 Troubleshooting If you still have problems, disconnect the telephon e. If other phones on the same line work properly, the fault is in th is phone or its installatio n. If you cannot find the prob lem, take your phone to your l ocal RadioShack store for a ssistance.
