4 Important: When hands et’s power is lost, the ET-1119 loses the secu rity ac- cess- protecti on code connecti on be - tween the bas e and the hand set. Pu t the handset on th e base briefl y to restore this connec tion so y ou can use the handset.

6 INSTALLA TION MOUNTING THE P HONE You ca n pl ace t he E T-111 9’s base on a desk or table, mou nt it on a standard wall plate , or mount it dir ectly on a wal l.
7 2. Plug one end of th e supplie d long modula r cord int o the TEL LINE jack on the bac k of the ba se. 3. Plu g the modu lar cord ’ s ot her end into a mod ular pho ne line j ack. 4. Insert the supp lied AC adapt er ’s barrel plu g into the DC IN 9V ja ck on the back of the bas e.

9 Follow th ese steps to i nstall an d charge the b at tery pack . 1. Pr ess do wn and slide off the battery pack co mpartmen t cover . 2. Ins tall the ba ttery pack s o the slo ts on the upper ends enga ge with the tabs on th e compartme nt. 3. Rep lace the cov er .
10 • If the dis pl ay is b lan k and the phone does not work, recharg e the batt ery pack. (The battery power might be too low to light th e display .) • If you are not going t o use your phone for a month or lo nger , di scon- nect the ba ttery pack .
11 If t he dia l ton e st ops, yo u hav e to uch- tone ser vice. Leave PULSE/TONE set to TON E . If the dia l tone c ontinues , you have pulse ser vice. Set PULSE/T ONE to PULSE . 13 OPERATION MAKING AND RECEIVING CALLS To make a call, li ft the hands et and press TA L K (the CHARGE /IN USE in di- cator on the base l ights), then dial the number. Y ou view the number as yo u di- al, then (after a few secon ds) the call’s elapsed tim e.
14 USING FLASH Flash perfor ms the electron ic equiva - lent of a switchh ook oper ation for spe- cial se rvic es, such as Call Wa iti ng. For example , if y ou hav e Ca ll Wa iti ng, pres s FLASH to answ er an in coming c all without disconne cting th e current call.
15 Each stored nu mber can be up to 20 digits, and each name can be up to 14 charac ters. Storing a Name and Number in Memory Notes: • An error tone sounds and the phone exits the s toring proc ess if you wait more tha n 20 s eco nds be twee n each key pr ess.
16 For each s tored numbe r, write t he per- son’s o r compa ny’s na me next to the ap- propriate l ocation num ber on the supplie d memor y directo ry sticker. Peel the backi ng from the sticker an d attach it to the phon e. To re plac e a st ored num ber, simp ly store a new one in i ts plac e.
17 Reviewing Memory Numbers To review your memor y numbers, press MEM . The list of memory lo catio n num- bers ( 1 - 0 ) ap pears with t he name stored with ea ch numbe r (or <Memory n > if you did n ot store a name). To view the sto red phone number s, press .

19 CALLER ID OPERAT ION If you s ubscribe to Caller ID servic e from your ph one comp any, the phone co mpa- ny sends informa tion about t he call, a s well as the time and date , after the s ec- ond r ing of ever y cal l you r ecei ve.
20 Caller ID Mes sages STORING A CALL ER ID RECORD TO MEMORY Follow t hese step s to store th e name and number from a Caller ID record into a memory l ocation.
21 DI ALI NG NU MBE RS F ROM A CALLER ID RECORD To dial a loca l numbe r store d in a Caller ID record , recall the reco rd, then p ress TA L K . If it i s a l ong distan ce call, press 1 ( 1 appe ars before th e display ed num- ber) be fore you pr ess TA L K .
22 T ROUBLESHOOTING We do not ex pect you to have any prob lems with you r phone, but i f you do, the fo llow- ing sugg estion s might h elp. Problem Suggestio n The phon e does not work or works p oorly . Be sure the base’ s phone l ine cord a nd AC adapter a re cor rectly and secure ly conn ected.
23 If you still have problems , disconnec t the phone. If ot her phones on the s ame line work proper ly, the fa ult is in th is phone or i ts installa tion. If you cannot find the prob- lem, take your E T-1119 to your loc al RadioShac k store fo r assi stance.
