7 PREP ARA TION CONNECTING THE BA TTER Y Before you us e your phone for the first time, you must conne ct and charge the battery. Slide off the battery com partment cov- er on the back of the handset . Connec t the battery’s plug to the pins insid e the compartment .

9 OPE RA TION Your ET-543’s L CD display shows telephon e numbers as you dial them or when you rec a ll them f ro m memory. It shows the current channel number and lets you know when battery po wer i s growing weak or the phone is out of range of the b ase.

13 Notes: • I f you receive a call while you a re storing a number in memory , press TA L K to answer the c all. After the c all, begi n again at S tep 1 to store the numb er . • T o c hange a phone num ber stored in memory , simply store a new phone number in that location.

18 REPLACING THE BA TTER Y If you follow the inst ructions in “Cha rg- ing the Battery, ” the supplied ba ttery should last f or several years. When the battery loses its ability to fully ch arge, order a replacemen t battery through your loc al RadioS hack store.
19 Your p hone might cau se T V or radio interference even when it is operating properly. To det ermine whe ther your phone is c ausing the in terference, turn off your phon e. If the interference go es away, your pho ne is ca using the inter- ference.
