6 IN ST AL LA TIO N SELECTI NG A LO CA TIO N You can p lace the ba se on a de sk, shelf, or table, or mo unt it directly on the wall. The bas e’s locati on affects the phone’ s range. If you have a choi ce of several lo cations , try each to see whi ch one p rovides t he best performance .
7 MOUNTING DIRECTL Y ON A W ALL Mount ing the ba se d irectly on t he wall requires three screws (not sup- plied) with hea ds that fit into the base ’s keyhol e slo ts. 1. Mark the loca tion of the mount- ing hole s using the s upplied templ ate. 2.
8 PREP ARA TION CHARGING T HE HANDSET’S BA TTER Y You m ust charge t he bat tery at least 24 hours before you use the phone the first t i me or when you replace t he battery. To ch arge or recha rge the battery, sim ply place the han dset on the cradle.
9 SETTI NG THE PULSE/ TONE SWITCH Set PULSE/TONE for the type of ser- vice you have. If you a re not sure which type you have , do this test. 1. Set PULSE/TONE to TON E . (ill us ) 2. Press TA L K on th e handset and listen for a dial tone. 3. Press any number other than 0.
10 OPE RA T ION ANSWERING/MAKI NG A CALL To answer a call, if the handset is on the ba se, simp ly lift the hand set. If the handset is not on the base, press TA L K on the h andset before speaking. (illu s - include the T ALK control and the TALK and IN USE indi cato r s) Note: The IN USE indicator flashes when you receive a call.
11 USIN G PRIV ACY Press and release PRIV ACY to ta l k t o someone else in the room without the person on the other end of the phone hearing your conversation.
12 4. Press MEM OR Y again. A ll indica- tors turn of f, and a tone sounds that means the number was suc- cess fully st ored. To dial the n umber, when y ou have a dial tone, simply press DD on the handset. The num ber stored in DD is automatical ly dialed.
13 Stor ing a P ause in Mem ory You can store a 3-second pau se in a numbe r you are storing into memory. W hile storing the number, press RE- DIAL/P AUSE where a paus e is need- ed. W hen you d ial the stored nu mber, a 3-second pa use i s au tomatically in- serted at that point.

17 REPLACING THE HANDSET BA T TER Y W hen t h e hands et’s battery no long- er recharge s, replace the battery. Use o nly a 3.6V, 650 m A bat tery with a co nnecto r tha t fits the connec tor in the battery compart ment. You can order a replace ment battery from your local Radio Shack store.
18 Note: Make sure the exce ss wires are between the battery pack an d the back cover . 7. Replace the screw in t he strap and tighten it, then replace the ba t te r y co ve r . Notes: • Y ou must charg e a new battery at least 24 hours befor e you use it the fi rst ti me.
19 Your phone m ight caus e T V or radio interference even wh en it is operat- ing properly. To determ ine whether your phon e is causing the interf er- ence , t urn off and unplug your phone and disconn ect the handset b attery. If the interference goes away , your phone is c ausing t he interference.
