7 Features T ELEPHONE FEATURES 10 Number Memory Dialing — lets you store 10 numbers in memory fo r easy dialing. Page — lets you send a paging signal from the base to the handset to page someone or locate the handset if you misplace it. 30 Channels — automaticall y selects a clear channel when you ma ke or answer a ca ll.
8 Installation ˆ Installation MOUNTING THE PHONE You can place the TAD’s base on a desk or table, or mount it on a standard wall plate or directly on a wall.
9 Installation 7. Lift the base’s antenna to a vertical posi- tion. On a W all Plate or W all 1. Insert the bracket’s tabs into the base’s lower tab slots, then press down on the bracket’s clips and insert them into the clip slots. 2. Plug one end of the suppl ied sh ort mod- ular cord into the TEL LINE jack on the back of the base.
10 Installation CONNECTING, CHARGING, AND REPLACING THE BATTERY PACK The TAD comes w ith a rechargeable ni ckel- cadmium battery pack installed in the hand- set, but not connected . Before using your phone, you must connect the battery pack, then charge it for about 24 ho urs.
11 Installation Warning: Di spose of the ol d battery pack promptly and properly. Do not burn or bury it (see “Battery Safety Instructions” on Page 5 for additional informa tion on proper battery handling). If you have trouble replacing the battery pack, take the phone to your local Ra- dioShack for assistance.
12 Installation A QUICK LOOK AT THE HANDSET Note: The handset window has plastic film on it to protect it during shipment. Careful ly peel off the film befo re using your ph one for th e first time. SETTING THE DIALING MODE Set PULSE-TONE on the back of the base for the type of service you have.
13 Installation 4. Press TA L K or place the handset on the base to hang up. T URNING THE BASE’ S RINGER ON AND OFF To turn off the base’s ringer, set RIN GER on the back of the base to OFF .
14 Telephone Operation ˆ T elephone Operation MAKING AND RECEIVING CALLS WITH THE HANDSET To make a call, lift th e handset and press TA L K . The TA LK/LOW BATT indicat or on the handset and the CHARGE/IN USE indicator on the base light. Dial the number.
15 Telephone Operation Note: If you hear a high-pitched noise from the base’s speaker, the handset and the base are too close togethe r. Move them away from each other. USING FLASH FLASH performs the electronic eq uivalent of a switchhook operation for special services, such as Call Waiting.
16 Telephone Operation • If you receive a call while entering a number in memory , the T AD exits the storing process. 1. Lift the handset. 2. Press MEMOR Y . The T ALK/BA TT LOW indicator flashes. 3. Enter the phone number and any tone or pause entries (see “Usin g T one Services on a Pulse Line” o n Page 15 and “Enter- ing a Pause”).
17 TAD Operation Notes: • Connecting a headset disconnects the handset’s earpiece and microphone. • VOL 8 8 8 8 or 9 9 9 9 or MUTE on the handset also controls the connected head set’s volume. • If you place the handset on th e base to recharge it while the headset is co n- nected, be sure the handset seats p rop- erly .
18 TAD Operation ANN (announcement onl y) — The T AD plays the outgoing message but do es not let callers leave a message. SETTING THE T AD TO ANSWER CALLS To set the TAD to answer calls, press AN- SWER on the base.
19 TAD Operation To start recording a ph one conversa tion, hold down MEMO on the base until th e TAD beeps and –– appears. To sto p recording, press PLA Y /STOP or MEMO . The TAD stores a recorded conversation as a message (see “Playing Messages”).
20 TAD Operation Note: If you press SPEAKER or PLA Y/STOP while changing the PIN, th e TAD exits. Begin again with Step 1. REMOTE OPERATION While you are away from your home or of- fice, you can use a.
21 TAD Operation To enter a remote command, press # and (within 2 seconds) the number for the com- mand you want. Note: The remote operati on stops when someone picks up the handset or any p hone on the same phone line. Remote Commands Press # then To 1 Repeat the current message durin g playback.
22 Troubleshooting ˆ T roubleshooting We do not expect you to have any problems with your TAD , but if you do, these suggestions might help. Problem Suggestion Low volume or unusual sounds. Someone has picked up another phone on the same line. Hang up the other phone.
23 Troubleshooting If you still have problems, disconne ct the TAD. If other phones on the same line work properly, the fault is in thi s phone or its install ation. If you cannot find the probl em, take your phone to your local RadioShack store for assistance.
