The slots on top of the r eceiver must be left uncovered to allow pr oper airflow to the unit. Blocking the airflow to the unit could impair performance or damage your receiver and other components.

Choose Y our Connection There ar e several ways to connect your digital satellite r eceiver depending on the components you want to connect and the quali ty of the signal you want to achieve.
Chapter 1 3 Connections & Setup Excellent Connection Using S-Video and A/V jacks and cables to connect to the TV, RF coaxial cables to connect the VCR This connection provides the best pictur e quality , surpassing that of A/V cables. The S-Video cable, which carries video information only , requires that audio cables also be used for sound.
Connections & Setup 4 Chapter 1 V ery Good Connection Using A/V jacks and cables to connect to the TV, RF coaxial cables to connect the VCR This connection provides better pictur e quality than RF coaxial cables and is recommended for use with TVs that do not have S-Video input jacks.

When working with cables, be sur e to connect corresponding outputs and inputs (Video out to Video in, Right Audio out to Right Audio in, etc.

The r emote is already pr ogrammed to contr ol most RCA, GE and Proscan components; it may need to be pr ogrammed to contr ol other manufacturers ’ brands.

Chapter 4 25 Using On-Scr een Menus Messages The Messages menu lets you access messages or phone calls. If you select Mail , it shows you messages that are sent fr om DIRECTV. For example, you may r eceive a message calling your attention to a new service.

30 Chapter 4 Using On-Scr een Menus Setting the Rating Limit The Rating Limit menu enables you to set a maximum rating viewing limit for r ated movies (based on the MPAA r ating system) and TV progr ams. Unrated movies and TV pr ograms can also be restricted fr om individual profiles.
