When the PTT button is pushed (or the VOX mode is enabled) it sends out radio frequency (RF) signals. The device is authorized to operate at a duty factor not to exceed 50%.

T ransmit Indicator: Icon appears when the unit is in the transmit mode (PTT button activated or VOX mode active). 3. Large Segment Display: Indicates the channel number in use between 1 and 22.
128-7005 7 of 20 7 Installing the batteries: Battery installation is made more convenient when the carry clip is rotated either left or right to the up side-down position, or is removed completely . Simply rotate the clip in either direction to the vertical position.
128-7005 8 of 20 8 The following guidelines will improve performance and provide longer operating times for the GMRS121-2: 1. Do not mix old and new batteries. 2. The use of alkaline-type batteries is recommended to provide the longest operating time.
128-7005 9 of 20 9 Controls: Power On-Off/SCAN Button (10) Press and hold the PWR on/off button for at least 2 seconds. Y ou will hear a confirming melody to indicate the unit is on. T o turn the unit off, press and hold the button for at least 2 seconds.
128-7005 10 of 20 10 Up Channel/V olume Button (6) In the standby mode, pressing this button will increment the listening volume. When in function edit mode this button will be used to adjust the unit’s settings. Down Channel/V olume Button (7) In the standby mode, pressing this button will decrement the listening volume.
128-7005 11 of 20 11 Channel Selection In order to communicate with other GMRS/FRS units, both the transmit- ting and receiving p arty must be on the same frequency . The GMRS121-2 has 22 channels (frequencies) indicated by the la rg e digits on the LCD display panel.
128-7005 12 of 20 12 VOX Selection Mode This option enables you to have hands-free conversation. When using the internal microphone/speaker , your voice or the signal is detected and the radio transmits and receives automatically . Y our voice or nearby sound is detected and the radio transmits without the need to press the PTT but- ton.
128-7005 13 of 20 13 T o enable the channel scan mode: - From GMRS/FRS standby mode, momentarily press the Power On/Off Button; SCAN will appear on the LCD display . - The radio will automatically display each channel (1-22) in ascending order to find an active main channel.
128-7005 14 of 20 14 Warning • Do not operate the transceiver unless you are licensed to do so. • Remove the batteries from the transceiver if it is not expected to be used for long periods. This will eliminate the possibility of chemicals leaking from the batteries and corroding the transceiver .
