Intr oduction 3 THE RUSSOUND ADV ANT AGE Thank you for selecting Russound Advantage Series speakers. Lik e all Russound speak ers, they combine advanced acoustic tec hnology with durability to provide y ears of list ening enjoyment. The Advantage speaker line is composed of the Music and the Hi-Fi Series.
4 Space Requir ements & Impedance Matching SP ACE AND W ALL REQUIREMENTS SP ACE REQUIREMENTS R ussound Advantage Iso-Mount speakers r equire a mini- mum wall depth of 3-5/8” (9.2 cm) (measur ed from the outside face of the mounting sur face), and requir e at least 1 .

7 WHA T – Speaker Usage and Envir onment WHA T - SPEAKER USAGE AND ENVIRONMENT Before you decide wher e you want to install y our R ussound Advantage speakers, y ou’ll need t o deter- mine their intended use.
WHEN – Pr e-Construction or Retr ofit Installation 8 WHEN - PRE-CONSTRUCTION OR RETROFIT INST ALLA TION PRE-CONSTRUCTION INST ALLA TION Built-in speaker installation is more con venient during home construction than af ter construction is comple ted.
9 WHERE – Speaker Placement WHERE - SPEAKER PLACEMENT Placement can make all the difference in how your R ussound speaker syst em sounds. There are at least four r elated considerations that factor .
10 WHERE – Speaker Placement F or home theater , wall speakers for the fr ont three chan- nels create the illusion that the sound is coming fr om the screen, which mak es the vie wing experience more involving and belie vable.

12 Wi re – W ir e Requir ements WIRE CONSIDERA TIONS When purc hasing speaker wire, y ou will need to select the proper gauge, det ermine the length, and choose the brand. Wire is measured in gauges: the higher the number , the thinner the wire. F or exam ple, 1 8-gauge wire is thinner than 1 4-gauge wire.
13 HOW – Painting the Speaker Frames and Grilles HOW - P AINTING THE SPEAKER FRAMES AND GRILLES R ussound in-wall speak er frames and grilles are pr e-fin- ished with an of f-white paint. Y ou can choose to leav e them as is or paint them with latex w all paint or aerosol spray paint t o accent or blend with the wall or ceiling.
14 TO P AINT SPEAKERS THA T HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED AND INST ALLED: R emov e the speaker grilles fr om the frames, being careful not t o damage the paint. Use a small pointed object and star t at the corner or edge of the grille.
15 HOW - Cutting W all/Ceiling Opening for Speakers HOW - CUTTING W ALL/CEILING OPENING FOR SPEAKER The following steps outline ho w to locate a section of w all betw een two studs, mark the outer boundaries of the hole, drill a small hole in the center to v erify the location and then cut the main hole.
16 Carefully score the penciled outline of the t emplate with a sharp utility knife to av oid chipping paint or tear- ing wallpaper . Then use a ke yhole/dr ywall sa w to cut along the scored line. Mak e sure you don ’t mak e it an y larger than the mark ed outline.
17 HOW – Hooking up the Speakers HOW – HOOKING UP SPEAKERS IDENTIFYING POSITIVE AND NEGA TIVE (“+” AND “-”) Speaker wir e consists of two conductors, and the wir e should be manufactured so you can discriminate between the tw o.
18 CONNECT TO THE AMPLIFIER (NO WALL CONNECTOR PLA TE) 1. Cut of f excess wire, lea ving enough to easily reac h from the wall opening to y our stereo syst em. If there ’ s a possi- bility that you ma y move the amplifier to ano ther part of the room, consider leaving some e xcess wir e coiled up.
19 HOW – Final Assembly of Speakers HOW – FINAL ASSEMBL Y OF SPEAKERS Up to this point in the installation process you hav e located and cut the hole, mounted the speak er frame, run the wires, and connected them t o the speaker baffle and to the amplifier/receiv er .
20 2. If the woofer cone mov es outwards when momentari- ly energized, the speak er is wired correctly . If the woofer cone moves in ward, the polarity is r eversed, and the wire ’ s positive and negative conductors should be switched on the bac k of the speaker .
