4 GENERAL SAFETY RULES n Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces when per- forming an oper ation where the cutting tool may con- tact hidden wiring. Contact with a “live” wire will also make exposed metal parts of the tool “live” and shock the operator.
5 n An extension cord should not be used unless absolutely necessary. Use of improper extension cord could result in a risk of fire and electric shock. If extension cord must be used, make sure: a . T h a t p i n s o n p l u g o f e x t e n s i o n c o r d a r e t h e s a m e n u m b e r , s i z e a n d s h a p e a s t h o s e o f plug on charger.

10 FEA TURES CARR YING HANDLE See Figure 2. For convenience when carrying or transporting the miter saw from one place to another , a carrying handle has been provided on top of the saw arm. T o transport, turn off and unplug the saw , then lower the saw arm and lock it in the down position.
11 SWITCH TRIGGER See Figure 6. T o prevent unauthorized use of your compound miter saw , remove battery pack and lock the switch in the off position. T o lock the switch, install a padlock thr ough the hole in the switch trigger . A lock with a shackle up to 9/32 in.

13 ASSEMBL Y UNP ACKING This product r equires assembly . n Carefully lift the saw from the carton by the carrying handle and the saw base, and place it on a level work surface. NOTE: This tool is heavy. To avoid back injury, lift with your legs, not your back, and get help when needed.
14 ASSEMBL Y DUST GUIDE See Figure 10. n Remove the battery pack from the tool. n Place the dust guide (end marked INSERT ) over the exhaust port in the upper blade guar d. Turn the guide so the open end is facing down or towards the rear of the saw .

16 ASSEMBL Y � n Replace outer blade washer. The double “D” flats on the blade washers align with the flats on the spindle. � n Depress spindle lock button and replace blade bolt. NOTE: The blade bolt has left hand threads. Turn blade bolt counterclockwise to tighten.
17 ASSEMBL Y WARNING: Make sur e the spindle lock button is not engaged before reconnecting saw into power source. Never engage spindle lock button when blade is rotating. NOTE: Many of the illustrations in this manual show only porti ons of the compound miter saw .
18 ASSEMBL Y SQUARING THE SAW BLADE TO THE FENCE See Figures 21 - 24. n Remove the battery pack from the tool. n Pull the saw arm all the way down and engage the lock pin to hold the saw arm in transport position. n Lift the miter table clamp. n Rotate the miter table until the pointer is positioned at 0°.

21 � � OPERA TION red LED does not come on after 30 minutes, this may indicate a defective battery pack and should be replaced.

24 OPERA TION TO BEVEL CUT See Figures 35 - 36. A bevel cut is made by cutting across the grain of the workpiece with the blade angled to the workpiece. A straight bevel cut is made with the miter table set at the zero degr ee position and the blade set at an angle between 0° and 45°.
25 OPERA TION Fig. 37 C-CLAMP COMPOUND MITER CUT n Once the saw arm has been set at the desired angle, securely tighten the bevel lock knob. n Recheck miter angle setting. Make a test cut in scrap material. n Place the workpiece flat on the miter table with one edge securely against the fence.
26 OPERA TION n Gra sp the stock firml y with one hand and secu re it again st the fence. Use the optional work clamp or a C-clamp to secure the workpiece when possible. See Figure 35. n Befo re turn ing on the saw, perf orm a dry run of the cutting operation just to make sure that no problems will occur when the cut is made.

28 OPERA TION Whe n set ting the beve l an d mit er angles for com pound mit ers, remember that the settings are interdependent; changing one angle changes the other angle as well. Keep in mind that the angles for crown moldings are very precise and dif ficult to set.
29 OPERA TION WRONG WARNING: T o avoid a kickback and to avoid serious personal injury , never position the concave edge of bowed or warped material against the fence. CLAMPING WIDE WORKPIECES When cutting wide workpieces, such as 52 in. x 6 in., boards should be clamped with a C-clamp.
30 ADJUSTMENTS WARNING: T o prevent accidental starting that could cause serious personal injury , always remove the battery pack fro m the tool when making adjustments. The compound miter saw has been adjusted at the factory for making very accurate cuts.
31 MAINTENANCE WARNING: When servicing, use only identical Ryobi replacement parts. Use of any other parts may create a hazard or cause product damage. WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields during power tool operation or when blowing dust.
