5 INTRODUCTION Should your QE/QV Headset or PM4 e ver require servicing, a Retur n A uthor ization number (RA) must be obtained bef ore shipping your unit to Samson. Without this number , the unit will not be accepted. Please call Samson at 1-800-3SAMSON (1-800-372-6766) f or a Retur n Authorization number prior to shipping your unit.
6 FEA TURES The Samson QE/QV Headset utilizes state-of-the-art headset microphone tech- nology and is engineered to the finest detail. Here are some of its main features: • Lightweight, low visibility design f or unobtrusive use . • High quality electret condenser element delivers high output and e xceptional sound quality .
7 FEA TURES • Microphones are molded to high quality gooseneck booms constructed of brass ov er stainless steel wire with matt blac k polyurethane cov ering. Compliant molding reduces microphone handling noise, and the booms bend smoothly , hold their shape and are rated to withstand o ver a thousand 90 ° bends without degrading.
As shown in the illustrations belo w , the correct wa y to wear your QE/QV Headset is ov er the ears, as you w ould wear a pair of ey eglasses. The QE/QV Headset is specially designed to be used up close, so be sure to adjust the microphone to be directly in front of your lips , as shown in these illustra- tions.
9 USING Y OUR QE/QV HEADSET Slide the f oam windscreen over the microphone ,as sho wn in the illustration on the pre vious page, to eliminate wind noise. The PM4 phantom power adaptor with its special interf ace, enab les a mixer to provide phantom po wer to condenser , piezo or electric microphones.
Every microphone has a characteristic polar patter n that deter mines how well it accepts or rejects signals coming from various areas around the microphone. A type of design which is par ticular ly good at rejecting backg round noise is the bi-directional polar pattern uti- lized b y the QE Headset, as shown in the illustration on the left.
Omnidirectional mics accept all signals regardless of where ver those signals originate (in front of the mic, behind it, to the side, etc.). In contrast, directional cardioid mics are specifically designed to accept mostly signals coming from directly in front, and to reject signals coming from behind or from the side.
12 USING Y OUR QE/QV HEADSET In the QE Headset, three noise cancelling modes operate together to provide 20 - 30 dB of noise reduction: First, the small size of the mic capsule and the shor t distance between front and rear por ts reduces the sensitivity at 1 kHz to f ar field noise by 15 dB compared to the close talking response.
1 3 USING Y OUR QE/QV HEADSET Because of their polar patterns, frequency response, and noise cancellation design, both the QV and QE Headsets e xcel in environments where there is a good deal of unwan.
